On the subject of twin SU carbs... the 260Z needs a twin SU manifold with the carbs... anyone know of one around.

The 260 is being done up mechanically. Will be posting pics of the prior to the resto in my next post.

I had posted a list of 19 cars incl. American iron which are available for sale. Even I can't find that list. Maybe we should ask the administrators of PW to develop a search option for our thread...There's a Ford Galaxie Convertible 1966-7 model 390 Ci Automatic with auto trans. I havent seen the car in ages but I do believe it requires quite a bit of attention. Call the owner Yousuf Azam on 03337264766. mjabbasi told me that he is expecting around Rs.350,000/-. Just checked with a friend who's restoring a 260 Z and is putting a V8 in it. He doesnt have them as he got the car with a diesel engine.

thank you for your kind comments. It is all of us who have not only kept this thread alive but have also created awareness of classic car scene in Pakistan. The MB is definitely a future classic but I personally don't like it that much.

mjabbasi is also selling his immaculate (almost)1961 Ford Thunderbird h/top. The car was mechanically restored a few hundred km's before with original parts imported from USA. You can leave a message for him here and he will reply. He is one of those ghost visitors to our thread who come here everyday, checkout whats happening and then go away...lol.

The mini on primer to prevent more rust in the rains. The cars door handles are a problem...and the side strips front and rear which had been smoothed over by the previous owner to give a MOD look are to be welded back. checking continues... I want it to be perfect before the painting starts.

Nice to see you again Sir! I imagine the best driver's car from Mercedes would be the 190E 2.5?

I don't know about the AMG SEC being a classic yet, but I'll certainly vote for it. Especially for the 6.0.

What are your opinions on the 500E (The original)? If there are two Mercs I'd like to own one day, one would be the aforementioned 190E and the other would be the 500E.

Mercedes 300 SLR 1954-55 (3 litre straight 8)
Mercedes 500K
Mercedes 300S 1954
Mercedes 300 SE Convt. 1964
Mercedes 280 SL Pagoda 1960's
Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 1971

The rest are ....well! nothing as special as the above. The 450 SEL 6.9 was a beast of a car but over weight and ugly....

You deserve all praise for your hard work and i am sure everyone agrees you are the driving force for this thread.
Anyway on a more personal note I still maintain that Mercedes are far far better cars than Jaguar's .

Thank you for your kind words as always. Was a bit tied up but followed this thread everyday.
For the greatest drivers Mercedes you will have to go back to the 50's. The 300 SLR was the greatest drivers car ( in my opinion) and in it's Ulenhaut Coupe version was the most beautiful one in the world too.
The two Coupe versions were built for a fully fledged attack on the Carrera Pan Americana but with the sudden withdrawl from racing following the 1955 Le Mans tragedy the two Coupes were left with not much to do.
One was given to the Chief Engineer, hence its name and it was used by Ruddi for the next 20 years as his company car!! The car was used extensively and was driven on autobahns at upto 190 MPH for auto magazine reviews. A picture is attached.
Do read up on the driving position though, the prop shaft cut between the drivers feet, clutch on left side and acclerator and brake on right side of the drivers split legs!!

The 500 E was a true successor to the 300SEL 6.3 and along with the Lotus Carlton is one of the most underrated cars ever. Personally the 500 E and the 560 SEC are so similar in perfomance and concept that it is hard to choose between them.
I'm sure the 190 2.5 is a great machine but I have always had a personal preference for large fast cars, ala ferrari 412i, Daimler Double Six, MB 6.9 etc.

You are berating one of the most magnificent driving machines the mighty 450 SEL 6.9 and saying it was overweight and ugly.
You forgot to mention that it had a 6900 cc V 8 with dry sump lubrication, anti dive and anti squat geometry, zero offset steering with hydraulic suspension and would cruise all day with 5 people on board at 145 MPH.

What a car and as for ugly look at the pics attached. Does it even look as it is nearly 30 years old.

Did you know Jaguar cheated when the E type was given for a road test by tweaking the engine on the test car ??

That 300 SLR must have been quite interesting to drive! Kind of reminds me of the Stratos, you sat at an angle to the road, so you always had a sensation of power sliding.

IMO, a de-badged 500E is perhaps the most lethal of all Mercedes, even Ferraris and Porsches of that era had a hard time coping with it. And the best bit it, it's so effortless trying to get the performance out of it. You just punch the throttle and it goes, HARD! And you could it all day, everyday with nary a whimper from the car. Trying the same stunt in the other exotica would leave you with a huge repair bill for the clutch and transmission!

I have to say though, I'm still partial to cars at the lighter end of the spectrum. Think 190E 2.5 vs. 450SEL 6.9, E30 M3 vs. E34 M5 (OK, I'm lying, I'll take both), Lotus Elise vs. Esprit, MR2 vs. Celica etc. etc...

I did say that 450 6.9 was a beast...I meant it was an awesome car. By saying it was overweight, I meant a bit bulky for my taste but from the MB point of view it was meant to be big and bulky to make it one of the fastest executive saloon of it's time though I wonder how would it be in comparison to the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo. When I said ugly, I didn't mean to offend MB enthusiasts but perhaps my choice of word was incorrect. I personally prefer cars with curves, round lights etc. Mercedes since the 60's have been pointy, boxy, slab sided etc. What I like about the Jags is they have always maintained that sensual body design that you somehow never get tired of.

I know Jag E-Type had tuned it's engine to make it cross 150 mph at Belgium's Jabbeke highway. A lot of manufactureres did similar stuff but talking of e-types, at GBP 2,000 it was a sensational car. Even Enzo Ferrari had said that this is the most beautiful sports car ever built.

Mercedes or Jaguar, Aston Martin or Ferrari.......man!! They are all great cars. One day (when I grow up - if I ever will)I 'll have a chateau in the South of France, a collection of sports cars and grand tourers, variety of maids to look after me and plenty of dollars to have fun........without the worry of finding those dollars.

do you have 440 engine for sale ? or someone else have as you mentioned in previous post, I have 4 weber carbs and I need a 440 engine for my future project
