Naaaah!! the one im talkin about is in Lahore.... or was in Lahore...at least three weeks ago..its in sky blue colour with red engine paint!!! dont know about da model though! and for the price check we can always check it wid the forum guys........!!! i ll try to take some pics of the car and post em up when i get the time in the coming week.......!

The Aitchison College Hospital had two VW Microbus's that were used as ambulances and for doctors visit outside the college. They were both brand new in 1967 and one was the Samba version with loads of windows and glass in the roof area also and a much higher level of standard equipment.
For all you know they might still be there.

VW has a very loyal cult following however I am not one who stands among their ranks!

I am a true Mercedes loyalist!! If ever I am to restore a car it will be a Mercedes.

Nice Merc! Would this be classified as a "muscle-car", a "super-saloon", or a a new class altogether?

Looking at the pictures, one thing gets me though, the sheer size of the handbrake handle. For a big German hand. A French car would probably have something resembling a bottle opener in its place. One or two of my fingers would fit in it.

Do you know what kind of prices these saloons command these days?

So many descriptions will fit this magnificent car. In the works it was refered to as a "dragster limosine" my own description is "mile eater" You could drive this car to close to 150mph for hours on end and still want to continue for more.
The M 100 engine is a true performance engine in the true sense of the word and keeps on delivering its rated output for hours on end, and not for just some short bursts.
Parts however are very very very expensive now, someone I know who owns one of these was quoted USD 95 for a SINGLE injector.!! This is one reason prices have not risen out of reach and GBP 12,000 - 14,000 will fetch a super clean example.
The car in the pictures posted by me is a right hand one and has a different handbrake setup compared to left hand drive versions. The LHD use a foot operated parking brake released by a simple pull on a button on the facia.

I see your point, it's a shame that the parts are so expensive. One might be tempted to buy one because it's not expensive to buy, but then, you'd be hung up for parts.

Being a mile-eater, you might want to take it for long distances, and your parts problem will only compound itself, seeing how expensive they are. But still, it's one heck of a car for the price that you quoted. No matter what the brand. Being an older Mercedes means that it's as reliable as a rock and as solid too.

Incidentally, this mile eater description was used for BMW bikes as well. It's no coincidence that a lot of police forces prefer the BMW to a lot of other competent bikes. It's the all around mix of reliability, comfort and performance that wins them over.

alvis: That's my favourite merc from the days. I had the pleasure of driving one in Florida - there are quite a few of them around that area, and in great condition. Its a seriously amazing engine and a great driver's car.

Not surprising that most of the 6.9's ended up in Florida and California, both places full to the brim with big spenders.

One other reason, besides super expensive parts, why you can pick them up for silly prices is the fuel consumption factor, I don't think they could better 15MPG in any circumstances. The only other car which could actually rival this car was the Jaguar XJ 12, but that great design and engine was plagued with reliability issues.
Sometime back Classic and Sportscar had run a poll on the "Best Saloon" and I think the 6.9 was in 3rd or 4th place among some very formidable machinery. Just for the record the 1964 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 was judged as the best saloon.

 I also am friends with Khizar (know him thru my cousin) but have been out of touch lately. he owns the bus, the orange 1303 and the 63 bug which was present in the May 6th 2006 beetle gtg at Creek Inn.

I dont know what to say about what was done to the bus........really I cant stop anyone from doing what they like......Had I owned the bus, I would have gone for a bone stock resto.

However its encouraging to know that whatever has been done is reversible.

Generally speaking anything done to an old car which is reversible in a matter of minutes or a couple of hours using basic tools and skills may be acceptible. In this case its a paintjob.
