Can you give me the exact spec on the car? As for it being worth it or not, it depends on who you ask. Some people would say yes, others would say no. I personally wouldn't shy away from it, if it's a rarer example.

If yours is a garden variety example, it might be better to consider something else more exotic, for example a Rotary Luce coupé, with a proper rotary engine. An RX-3 perhaps? Then again, rotary motors aren't an easy thing to live with especially if you do a bunch of miles.

Agreed about the engineering part, but I'd rather do the same thing on an old single or twin cylinder vintage bike rather than a car, why? Because in a bike, you can easily see and show the work that you did, whereas for a car, it'll be difficult.

Anyway you go, good luck for your project, and don't hesitate to ask for help on these pages. Someone might be able to help you out.

you were lucky, the Mini wasnt worth, 100k, or even 80K. Every cloud has a silver lining. When the time is right, you WILL find the right car at the right price. This one was just too molested I fear..
@Neuro, never got a call. Am back in Isb after a long trip in the Beetle. Some other time perhaps..
@Mohsin, I would gladly swap a type 2 for a Pagoda any day. In fact I might even consider something a little more drastic to own that icon!
@Jamaal, why do I get the feeling you come to this site, read and then drift away? It was only the Triumph details that 'forced' you to give us those words of wisdom, right?

Congratulations on acquiring the Alfa (probably one of your dream cars)……!

Hope to see it on the Lahore roads soon…. The condition of the car however requires a lot of hard work and patience (which you have) on your part. This Restoration process would be the toughest of all (you have done before, except the yellow Fiat), I suppose…. Good Luck…..!

I am unable to understand why people do all this to their cars (whether special or ordinary vehicles) (one can always maintain a car, especially, which are bought brand new)…. I think one should sell a car before it is deteriorated to the point of no or hard revival, even if one has an emotional link…..

I would suggest you to start this project after completing your first one (i.e. the house). But I think you have more guts……

i took a test run of the car posted above,

Sorry Romano got stuck in surgeries,,, a child with with an intraventricular brain tumour..for example. Thank God he is well. and then there was a mnin disaster at the house. The painters supposedly in a hurry to finish the house painted the wooden staicase with enamel paint.....just imagine a wooden staircase which was three months in the making painted with black enamel paint.

I just walked into the place and nearly burst a blood vessel.... forgot about everything else... as a friend says Gandi Gandi Galian....

Someones question about the Alfa engine. I suppose to be historically correct it has to be a 1750 ( 1788 ) engine. Mohsin is helping me get one.
Alfaholics supply a 2 litre twinspark engine putting out 198 BHP as well.

arifmian... thanks for the goodwishes. Actually this is less bad than the yellow fiat as the interior is much much better. If you will recall there were many false starts to that one including the conversion of the car from LHD to RHD after the manufacture of the LHD dashboard. Also I am more experienced at it. The DAtsun has been started so it is going to be finished first. Also with new painters being tried out on the Mini.

By teh way does anyone know of a couple of mini doors for sale.

I have also contacted Alfa romeo... they have a section ( historico alfa romeo ) which gives out details of every Alfa Romeo on being contacted.with the chassis number.. the factory details of the interior colour... the original car colour etc and where/ who to first supplied.

This is going to be expensive though... but with good 1750 prices hitting 15000 UK pounds may well be worth it.

To the questionas to why people interfere with their cars... it has to be availability and expense.... along not a small matter of taste. Look at the modern... ie the 60s and later buildings on the MAll in LAhore and compare with the pre independence era architecture and you will get my drift.

Our people have a serious problem with taste. I mean even in cars who would prefer a PRADO / PAJERO over a good Merc or BMW. Also do you know the joke about the man in a black range rover with tinted black glass.. its a drug dealer... and do you know the man in a black Porsche Cayenne with tinted glasses... its a blind drug dealer.

Got a bit of time today.. one last thing.

The Alfa GTV bertone was number 5 in a list of all time best Classic sporting cars in a survey carried out by Classic and Sports car in Britain about three years ago. The number 3 car was a Mini Cooper.. The number 1 was a Jag XKE ( The E type )
