Hello all!!

Today was a big day for me!! Rescued a 1968 VW beetle from a local 'Kabaria' minutes before it was due to be hacked into bits!

The real hero (IF anyone considers this a gallant deed of chivalry!) is in fact none other than our good friend Romano who would be financing this rescue.

A little info on the bug to be followed by some pics.......

Its a 1968 1300cc Beetle. The engine is the original for the car and the paperwork is complete. Taxes are outstanding though (paid upto Dec 2004). It belonged to a Christian gentleman who grew too old to drive and had to 'dispose' off the poor beetle.

Cutting a story short.....this beetle is up for immediate sale and we hope it would go to a good home.

In my opinion it is an IDEAL project classic for a beginner. The engine needs no major work so a novice in this field can handle it without major headaches. The body should ideally be taken to bare metal and then resprayed in your favorite color. The body does need some rust repair but I am quite positive theres no major nightmare lurking around. Most important the car shows no signs of major collisions and the front nose is pristine.

The last owner did some paintbrush 'touch ups' to the bug which although looks not very attractive has managed to preserve the metal from major rust.....

If anyone is seriously considering this as a first project please show interest here. I can guide and help anyone who is interested.......

Senior members are sincerly requested to help find a good home for this poor Bug, possibly with a young budding enthusiast.

BTW.....the headlight is very much with the car, was taken off when these pics were taken.

great work Asad and Romano. The car seems to be too good to be wasted. Even I am tempted to ask you how much would be good to get this car....I have never owned a beetle and would love to own one (it has to be a split window though).

Seems to be in pretty good nick for a 40 year old car in Karachi. I'd paint it Avocado Green on the bottom with Ivory pillars and roof.

what do u expect when I am not around.. just kidding. It's a shame isn't it? I do believe we had a display of 6-7 cars, perhaos not all days. Two of my cars were there on display on Sunday

im interested in a beetle but i agree with mohsin sir that it should be a split window.

not a particular fan of the post 67 beetle. but the previous was a bit better. whats the price though.

Im glad you appreciate the humble effort. If I had my way all Kabarias would have been mysteriously slaughtered in their sleep by a cladestine serial killer!!

Jokes aside, this bug cannot be compared to the split window. Yes it is rare as hens teeth and perhaps hope should not be pinned upon finding one. Of course the Magazine Line example is an exemption to this.....

This is an ideal car for a beginner who wants to try their hand at a resto or maybe even a customization. At least the bug would be better off rather than being recycled into ten thousand 'Dalda' cans!

Agreed that pre 67 VWs are more desirable. But oddly in Pakistan the general trend is quite opposite!

Let me market the 68!!

It was the first year with a collapsible steering column, twin circuit brakes (tho on this particualr car the master cylinder has been changed to a single), impact detaching rear view mirror........list goes on.....

At 25k it is a bargain.

This thread has tons and tons of info regarding the history about the vintage and classic cars. Hats off to all you.
The Gia is to die for and the very thought of a split window beetle or the bus is a mouth watering proposition.
