I was quite near to doing a deal on the Lusso. Would have disposed off a lot...But backed off for both emotional and financial reasons although I am not too superstitious.
Everyone pops off sooner or later but the people who have been intimate with this one have all died fairly quickly and horribly. Sorry to propagate this myth if it is a myth....
It is now painted red as if with a paintbrush... all the chrome is pitted. The exhaust is falling off and probably the floor is all rotten.. The interior is OK but the dash instrument chrome is all pitted. Still fires up though.. In my view for a proper restoration from a specialist... this car is not to be done by amateurs....it will need at least for parts something like 150 K US dollars. And to top it all a car without provenance... ie not owned by Steve Mcqueen or Innes Ireland or the Rt Hon Rob Walker would not fetch more than 175-200K US....
So the car value internationally is less than people assume.
I was initially hot for it but now I feel that it would be silly to get it even if offered free with all teh expense involved And to top it all with the ownership legal issues.
