restoring cars (properly) is every bit as challenging as doing something from scratch. In our part of the world its very tempting to take a shortcut and replace an original part with a jap based part but that against the spirit of restorations.
The wheelbase is 98 inches which is pretty similar to most 4 door saloons however, to maintain a low center of gravity the seats have to be reclined.
Your observation about the gear lever is actually quiet good, although the picture does exaggerate the angle somewhat. Havent gotten around to the ergonomics bit just yet. the gear lever needs to bend backward by about 30 degrees.
@au
Take the plunge... its worth every bit... i was very reluctant initially but once the thing starts taking shape its actually quite addictive. I have the book and a whole lotta other stuff but the only problem is that the books based on a MK II ford escort of the late seventies.... I had to do huge mods to get it to this stage... I did all the mods myself however I got the spaceframe welded by a professional... I can weld heavy gauge stuff but not sheet metal. I'd be lying if I said its a total DIY but the mechanic only comes in when I hit a brick wall...
@mohsin
Thanks for the comment... youre right about the body... it is the easy bit.... The detaling bit will follow... the steering came in when i needed a cheap one to get the thing around...
Guys I need your input on one thing though... i'm in two minds on whether to go for a classic look or a retro modern look like a plymouth prowler or a foose hemisfear
