have a couple of dvd's of Goodwood Festival of Speed....quite an event. I have been to the Silverstone Classic which is also an extrordinary 3 day event. I was picked up at the Huntingdon station by a friend driving his Works Healey 3000 clone. Our drive to Silverstone (about an hour) is the most memorable ride of my life....we averaged 90 mph along the way and would get passed often by a bunch of car groups of 20ish...such as AC Cobras, E-Types, Aston Martin's mix etc. I had a paddock pass and got to meet Sir Stirling Moss, saw Derek Bell and Nick Mason.....two outstanding cars that I saw were an original unrestored racing green Jaguar C Type and a barn find BMW 328. I got to see original GT 40's racing....saw them from 2 inch distance with mechanic fiddling one of them....Lister Jaguar, Lightweight E-Type on show, Aston Martin race was phenominal...treat to watch original DBR 1, DB 3 S etc. tailing out and racing bumper to bumper.....saw a Jag D Type eating up a Mercedes 300 SL followed by a Maserati 300S and Sir Stirling's Osca. I hope I didn't bore everyone to sleep

Guess which engine is this....hint! one of the best sounding racing car engine of the 50's.

im no expert..but seems lika a jag E-type chassis.
the engine howevere looks lika a v-12, so it has to be a series 3...

Is it a BRM V16? I can see (I think) 8-cylinders on one side, and judging by the symmetry and width of the engine, it seems that it's got a second bank as well. Does Nick Mason own one? There's a soundtrack of the engine in his book "Into the Red" I haven't got the book though - Note to self, buy the book for your own Birthday Sami

I should go wow! that indeed is a BRM V16 and yes, Nick owns one. I have his book 'into the red' - an original autographed by Nick Mason. The cd with engine sounds is amazing. If you don't get hold of this book easily let me know.

You have to thank of all companies, Rolls Royce for the glorious sound.
It was the two speed centrifugal supercharger that was the main source of that awesome sound and it was a product of Rolls Royce.

For benefit of all the engine was 1500 cc, and pumped out around 550 BHP though the exact power was always thought to be even higher.

550 BHP from 1.5 litres? Yikes! Any technical details behind the two-speed device? Trust Rolls Royce to come up with the guts to make something so complicated. Even now, boost is controlled using a bleed valve in the blower, not a variable speed drive.

Thank you very much for the offer, I appreciate it! I had a look around the Amazon website, and the best deals are from the UK. A new book with CD is around £70 or so. Not too bad at all. The worst I found was in France for €389 Euros!

What an engine it was, yes 1.5 litre, because the Formula regulations in the early 50's were 1.5 litre supercharged or 4.5 litre normally aspirated.

49.5 bore with 47.8 stroke ( 93 cc /cylinder!! ) official claimed output 600 BHP @ 12,000 RPM.

The RR superchargers contribution to boost is clearly seen in the following 280 bhp@8000 RPM, 350bhp@9000RPM, 430 BHP@10,000 RPM and nearly 500 BHP at 11000 RPM

Boost pressure at the highest was 72 PSI

Not being satisfied with this they ended building an H 16 after this one!!!

really busy trying to study these days but what can i do im hooked to this forum . even though its harsh winter up here iv seen some really nice oldies mostly from the 70s still running good. saw a very very nice 57 chevy being put in a trailer to go to some show. saw an edsel and lots more will post pics once i get a new camera old ones giving me a real tough time.

Hope you are well. Study and enjoy!!!! Pakwheels is a good way to relax. You can get cars pretty cheap in the states. I would recommend an old classic but not as a student. Go for a VW 'Rabbit'. Its one of the most popular student cars. I have found and recently misplaced some vintage vehicle photos from my grannys album will scan and post them.
