Sir any history of the car whose pics i posted on the previous page? i have other pics of the car but i didnt post em as the owner is working on it currently and might want to keep it hush hush. the car currently has a corolla engine in it.

@datto... you are a stickler for detail are you not?.... well I had the fender flasher holes filled in myself... like the smoother look... and also the under indicators are going to be non standard.... modded.... and the wheels are going to be different... and ....well I could go on disappointing you...but dont want to break your heart...

@madhouse12........an MG with a corolla engine.... that must be a first. MGs were modifid a lot in the 1950s but generally with superchargers etc

sami_voodoo... these are Gta replica allys made by several companies now.. some in aluminium and others in magnesium alloy. both in 14 inch and 15 inch with the correct offset etc....I somehow like the mag wheels... low weight.

Were they originally available in steel as well, or were they only available as alloys?

I agree about the weight of the mag wheels. There are a few things to keep in mind though, but you'll already know I suppose - magnesium is rather reactive when in contact with other metals - steel most notably. So steel schrader valves and wheel balance weights with steel clamps are a definite no-no. I think you have to glue the weights to the wheels if I'm not mistaken. And that you have to keep them clean otherwise road salt and grime will start pitting them.

Just a point of interest, how much do repro mag wheels cost? And in aluminium? And what are period correct tires for the GTA?

Well I got a '61 T-Bird, then a '62 Lincoln, then a '63 Oldsmobile, followed by another '61 T-Bird convertible, so yes lady luck does smile down on some.

Gentlemen,

i would love your comments on a nice, reliable, and everyday usable classic. Actually i'm hungry for another project but can't seem to make up my mind on what to invest on....
i love the classic americans but they're getting rarer by the hour...
maybe an old merc?
the only issue is that i would like to drive the car regularly just like i use my beetle as a daily driver...i don't like the idea of keeping cars under cloak.
budget is a constraint (as always :P)
pls pitch in with your wisdom and I would appreciate any leads to a 'for sale'

Who's debating on small issues? You started this whole thing. The concerned photo's are not copyrighted and hence no one should have any problems with it, including but not limited to those who do not own these cars and acting like they do. These are not your cars either. Besides if the person who took the pics knows that I have posted them and I told him why I have posted them and that I would not disclose his identity, hence its no one else's business. If you know who took them and under what 'reference' then feel free to disclose the same, unless the photographer is under your guardianship as well. I think I know pretty much what is going on here and who is talking to who (everyone claims they know everyone) and hence I am under no obligation to explain anything to anyone, so I would be careful in my choice of words used. If I want to post pics and share them with others, there is not a damned thing anyone can do about it, as long as the pics are not copyrighted or of objectionable material, and furthermore, the issue is not about who took the pics and who is taking credit for them. I did not at any point claim to take credit for the pics of those cars, I don't need to. I have my own cars which speak for themselves compared to those others. If there are those who want to lay claim (or guardianship) over those cars then say so, but coming here and acting the good Samaritan as if some great wrong has been committed is totally blowing things out of proportion. We all like to take pics of these cars, wherever they may be and whoever they may belong to and you are doing the same, that is what this forum is all about, but twisting things around about credibility and getting all **** about who did and did not take pics of them is deterring from the topic. Honestly I can't understand why everyone tries to act like something or the other belongs to them when it doesn't. They're probably living in a fools paradise thinking that they might be able to get those cars one day and hence don't want anyone to see them. If you can prove that there is an original MG TC in Islamabad...I 'll pay for your dinner at Serena........there was one TC in Pakistan that went to Lahore from Karachi.....35 years ago....never heard of that car since. I 'll be delighted to know if this is the same one...and I want it.
