This late 1930's or early 1940's (presumeably) Standard Car is owned by Mr. Dinshaw who now wants to sell it. The car is quite original and complete but has not been started for many years. House no. A 35 Parsi Colony in Mahmoodabad.

I have been a silent observer of this thread and admiring the beauties many of you have restored.

Hats off to Mohsin bhai making a strong and well knit community of vintage car lovers and collectors.

I have finaly mustered up the courage and have made up my mind to take the time out to get a classic/vintage car and restore it. I am looking on the lines of cars like the one in the qouted pictures.

I am a a novice and this is a newly developed passion for me hence looking for guidence and assistance from Mohsin bhai and other senior members for acquing a car and restoring it.

Gentlemen!

The time has come when big hulks are being dragged into Shershah scrapyard for a quick slaughter. This phenomenon is thanks to the spiraling diesel prices which makes these once economical cars redundant.

Topping the list of such vehicles are old Mecedes benz cars. Ive seen 110 series fintails and the next generation 114-115 models being murdered with impunity.

Recently, I asked about a complete, though non running fintail and the price quoted by the scrapper was 90k rupees. He laughed at me, looking at me as if I was some kind of a nut and proudly said that this car is nothing to the complete running silver colored fintail he scrapped last week. Wth???

And then two weeks ago I got this news from one of my moles about an S class fintail, left hand drive, hacked up. Car was so clean it even had the chrome horn ring.

If anyone is interested in an old Merc or American iron project, perhaps now is the last chance to get hold of a good project car. Please let me know if someone has genuine interest. Soon most would end up as Dalda ghee canisters.

i am considering the option but yes maximum worth abt 100k, not a penny more, even that if sum1 is VERY desperate 4 it, so lets see

I agree - very clean car and worth putting an effort in. But one mustn't overlook its 'collector's car' desirability factor when making an offer. 100 K is reasonable as the car would take another 2 minimum to look good. Investing 3 lacs in this car is just about right plus minus some thousand. Moin's oldsmobile is a 4 door hardtop in much more original and better condition....90% restored. Just googled the prices.....one low mileage car exceptionally clean available for $3,000

yeah the white one with red top, the guy told me he'll clear all the issues with the car, he'll transfer the car for the owner, but it doesnt look pathetic, its a real classic beauty

there is some origional deed
and u need alot many minds to understand those things

i have talked to some people about it, they say it can be registered, the plus point which will help getting it registered is that its a classic and 1 of the three in Pakistan

since you have a workshop now and understand modifications etc. better than most, can you work out an approximate cost to convert a standard 1968 beetle into something like this....I would prefer a VW Bus engine, ideally 2200 cc if somebody can find that for me otherwise an american V8

very interesting. Mohsin bhai, this is very much possible and with a vw, the advantage of modifying the body separately (off from the chassis) makes it even more interesting.

For the engine, i have 2 models in mind:

1. Convert the entire rear setup and put in a fwd engine in the back with transmission, making it a very quick drag monster.
2. Use the stock gearbox, (replace with the type2 gearbox) and mate a hi-performance engine to it.

Both options can be executed easily and can be discussed if anyone is interested. I would love to do a chop-top hot rod project and finance permitting, might start one for myself if i don't get an octane headed adventurous client

Im getting a Vw Beetle 70+` .. All original from window knobs to engine .. Car is without bumpers and is standing for the last 5 years .. Colour is That orange which comes in Beetles .. What should i offer ?
