The historyof the Scirocco is an interesting one as well.
I had an interest in cars when in school but I remember seing this car in 1977 in the Lawrence Gardens car park.... windows misted with the AC... I was passing by in my dads new corolla 76 and promply locked the wheels. It was imported by Dr. Sulzer... a German Jewish doctor...to the consulates etc who left the country as the PNA movement started and there was ??? an anti Jewish protest and threats.
The car was left with Dr. Iqbal his partner and mainly driven by his son Omar who was my classfellow in school. I still remmebre a race on the Boulevard starting form Liberty roundabout ( we were 17-19 at the time) on the single lane road with KS2 ( a green celica liftback) when the scirocco left the celica standing or is it sliding into the dirt at the FC College turning. The pilot at the time was none other than another friend now a highly acclaimed paediatric surgeon.... I was only a witness as then I was coming from another friends in my Mazda 808 ( I was in medschool ) and thought Omar was the driver.
Many years later it is with me as Omar has left for the UK.It is completely original.
I tried to buy the only other Scirocco a blue one in 1979. My dad agreed to fund it and the deal was done at 71 thousand rupees. When he went with the money 2 hours later the dealer demanded 100k for it. The car was later sold the same for if I remember correctly 30k . I saw it last on the M,way near the Sargodha turnoff last year with a diesel engine, toyota 88 lights front and rear painted with a brush and three Pagri wallahs feeling like lords.
I followed it with great sorrow in the RX7 ...but then decided that if I did it for another minute I would stop and make them an offer so it was 180 until I realised that radars were around.
