I would also say that replacing them with electric fans is the way to go now. Electric fans are more efficient also would reduce the useless load on the engine out by the fan and clutch mechanism. Replacing the mechanical fan with a proper electric fan would be the best way to go now. no maintenance, if setup properly it can be made to work according to the engine temperatures. and then be forgotten.. unless the motor goes bonkers

I am not facing overheating issues of any sort in any situation. Just wanted to be sure about maintenance.

I apologize for the angles and the shadows in the pictures, but there is not a lot of space available to take good shots of the fan clutch in the LX470.

As far as I can tell, it is a plain old thermocouple control with nothing electric attached to the fan clutch assembly.

I think the maintenance is no more than keeping an eye on proper operation and leaks.

There is a tube of the correct oil that is available from Toyota dealers. I can get you the oil or the part number if you need it. I have not had to use it up till now.

There are three types of Toyota viscous fan clutch oil. All are silicone based and rated at 3000 cST, 6000 cST, and 10,000 cST.
The part numbers are 08816-03001, 08816-06001, and 08816-10001, respectively for an 18 mL bottle shaped like in the picture with a twist off single use application. Each bottle is 18mL, and 2-3 may be needed.
The 3,000 cST was for all Toyotas except for the Celica which uses the 6,000 cST. The 10,000 cST is used only for the big Toyota SUVs.

these fans blow an awful lot of air- just need a fluid top up every 70,000 kms or so.. Toyota sell their coupling fluid in a bottle and it comes in three different centistoke measurements..

Also Top up seems like a grey area, how much to put in?
