 That 67 seems too nice to go to waste. Any takers here???

 I stongly suggest this car is saved, even if it means buying it yourself, with the intention of passing it on to another enthusiast in the near future. 

 It is a rare 1200 standard model. Most 67s I have seen were 1300 deluxe ones. There was an original one owner 1200 67 which my brother almost bought way back in 1997. It was still in original paint, one owner and a real gem. Brother missed it by a few hours, a neighbour of the seller clinched the car knowing it was a rare well kept example.

67 1200 would have only one horn grill on the front fender, provided it has not been messed around with. More details differ from what we normally see. The rear pop out windows have been fit by some previous owner.

I really hope this is saved soon.

  The 67 rear bumper is unique to the model. It would fit to your 65 but strictly speaking it would be incorrect. Of course few people besides myself would know this 8-|

  I think you can hunt for parts on Ebay and other websites. Good towel rails do come up every now and then and its your luck to grab a decently priced deal. Even NOS (new old stock) stuff crops up occasionally. Shipping would be a killer though but if you travel it may be a viable option.

 Just wondering......the current bumpers on your beautiful 65...are they original for the car?? If so, it must have started out being a 1200 European standard. Those shorter over riders are rare. 

I have plans that once my Ragtop is complete, I have two sets of bumpers, headlights, tail lights, speedos, indicators etc. That would enable me to go from US spec to Euro spec in under an hour. :-)

Welcome to the thread. I believe you are a new poster here tho you may have been a lurker. Please introduce yourself  :-)

If you do have dreams of restoring a beetle, you should do it soon!! Just see the number of good cars going to scrap. Its a sad end for something which cannot be reproduced ever again.

Why dont you consider the 1200 67??? It seems like an excellent base for an easy project car. Btw the 67 year models are collectors' favorites around the world.

Before closing I must mention that a hacking the roof off a VW bug is probably the greatest sin you can commit to the marque. It literally destroys the car. No one in Pakistan has the patience to research on how to go about a good conversion.

Here is a 74 beetle speedometer which I lightly restored for my cousins bug.

Its far from perfect as the glass is scratched and a bit cracked. Might change that plus a bit of attention here and there. Good for a daily driver.

I am reluctant to post pics of the whole process as a DIY since this is a delicate procedure having many pitfalls to avoid or else you ruin the speedo. Not recommended for a beginer or someone with a rough hand.

Some rare parts I just got for my 59 ragtop project....a front end and a fuel tank!!

Both have come off a 60 beetle as testified by the ID plate still on the front end. I wish I could have saved the donor car!!

The area sanded under the plate was where the body number was in 50s bugs. This being a 60 does not have one. The spare wheel well does need quite a bit of work but I think I am very lucky to get this rare bit even in this condition.

This is the 1956 to 1960 fuel tank. Has surface rust everywhere but seems solid. Will bare metal it for a sound resto.

I dont think that gets rusted too badly, hope not anyway. Its closed from above so should not get too bad.

I way toying with the idea of fabricating pans locally in Karachi. It would involve making some dies for the patterns. The initial cost would be quite high. Worse comes to worse, we can make dies for the said section and fabricate.
