that's a HEAVILY modified beetle with a 2400cc engine, in order to do that you'd have to do so many things to the engine that just the block would cost more than another car (you're looking at atleast around 2 lacks with duties). BTW kpsheikh already has done this here and it's a bit of a nightmare keeping the engine cool since it produces so much more power & heat.

his car can smoke VTi's easily.

Storm, why you being economical with the truth? Running a heavily modified engine without the necessary cooling apparatus is a recipe for disaster. KPs engine is frozen solid, or is that the wrong choice of words? :-#

Tomorrow she is will be washed properly and waxed.....Ordered new Nexen tyres for it....I hope they have em in stock...

Some guy stoped me last night in Jinnah Super saying that he was suppose to purchase this car how come i bought it & i was like are you serious. He wanted me call the pervious owner so he can talk to him. What a freak man!

I might stop by tomorrow, want to share some thoughts and findings with you.....By the way my car has a 33 pct carb.

@psyborg I talked to your cousin and initiallly fixed today as the date to see the beetle. He had an emergency to attend to so we will keep it for tomorrow.

I saw on your Restoration thread that the engine was giving you a lot of trouble. Was it resolved or it still breaks down??

@NaveedRizvi, as I discussed in the other post, the engine was giving problems due to a faulty ignition setup. I have replaced the ignition coil, the points, condenser with new Bosch parts. All of the problems were solved. The car is being driven around by my cousin and driver for testing and it isn't giving any problems.

I didn't have the engine rebuilt. It does not have any problems, no oil leaks, no smoke. There is no play in the crank pulley so the bearings are fine.

Take a look at the car, drive around and decide.

Yes I really am excited to look at the beetle. wanted to yesterday only. but it was not possible I will definitely arrange it today. I went through the whole thread of the restoration. I hope it has maintained its look since being restored. When can your cousin hand it over to me assuming we strike a deal Insha Allah.

First.....Salman's Beautiful find!!!

 A hearty congratulations to Salman for buying this gem. Yes good things come to those who wait. This bug comes real close to funkycapricorns 66. I wonder how people have kept these machines in such amazing mint condition.

Karachi readers stop dreaming please! We DONT have bugs in such shape in this part of the country. Thank the sea breeze and horrendous traffic conditions. I would be damned if I ever see anything in Karachi coming even close to the standard these bugs have.

I know of four local bugs which are/were in top shape in Karachi (by Karachi standards).

One was a 67 passed onto a gentleman by his brother. Car was restored a couple of years ago by a top VW specialist. Strictly not for sale.

Another 67, beige in color is a one hand driven car belonging to a lady doctor. She never married so no kids to spoil the car. Again the car is not for sale. I offered to buy the car and the owner just smiled and said, Ok I will put your name in the list, topping which are names of many of family people!

Third was a standard 70 bug. Again owned by an eccentric old bachelor since new. Even had the original floor mats. Only the drivers seat showed signs of minimal wear. Sadly this gem was sold off 'in a hurry' due to the idioticity of a mechanic who failed to adjust the carb much to the disgust of the owner. The car disappeared.

Fourth is a 74 bug. Original paint, all original upholstery. A time capsule. Low miles since it was carefully garaged for a good 15 to 20 years. Car has been sent to interior sindh by the owner so it does not rust or gets spoilt. Is being carefully used there for short trips.

The bottom line of all the above rant is this: You cannot buy a super clean VW off anyone, especially for cheap. I am sure Salman has paid through his nose for the car. Well worth it I must say.

Just wondering but which city registration is on the 66?? Im quite sure its a one owner car or been in the family. Im glad its in the hands of an enthusiast who would maintain it in original conditon.

  If you need W126 parts, check out Rasheed's shop at Shershah. He does have many Merc bits and his prices are perhaps most reasonable amongst the handful of MB specialists there. You may give him my reference.

  Sorry I got a bit late in responding.

  Jasim's bug is very good as you can note in his resto thread. Its had a full body resto. Do note that it was a top job when it comes to a body on resto ie the body and chassis not having been separated. 

  People going for body off restos would of course never dream on selling the car as a body off costs around 35 thousand for the denting alone by the top specialist in Karachi. Thats denting alone. Add to it the cost of paint and any panels changed and you see where we go.

 Storm has had a body off resto on his 1303 in Isloo and the bill has so far come to 4 lakhs if Im not mistaken.

 Jasim's bug was built not with the intention of selling, it was just that he had to go abraod for studies. Im sure given the option, Jasim would like to pack the bug in a suitcase!!

Let me see....you can get other VWs but I am quite sure body and paint wise they would be no match for Jasims bug. 

One can go for a project bug and build according to ones own wishes but then you need time, money and a lot of input from your side. Blood and sweat I must say. 

A novice would easily fall into a multitude of trap while dealing with denters, painters, mechanics and electricians if going for a full on project with no experience.

I have a friend who only lurks on pakweels who has had painful experience getting work done on a newly purchased bug as he failed to heed my warnings and advice on the dos and donts of such projects.

You would be at a very good starting point with Jasims bug. The most difficult part ie bodywork and paint is done. Mechanically the car is good. If you are a perfectionist you can go for a mechanical overhaul according to your own pace ie if you want everything to be brand new.

Last things first.....

If you go out to buy a close to forty year old car, expect to find hidden troubles and nasty surprises. Any seller is not out to cheat you, you just have to have good eyes and offer what you think is a fair price. Its the way you take life in general, if you think of everyone as a cheat, you alone end up being the miserable one.

As far as parts are concerned, there is absolutely no problem. All parts required to keep a car on the road are avialable. Difference is you cannot purchase them from your regular street corner shop, you need to go to certain VW specialist dealers. You do get temporary shortages of certain things but always have stuff off the shelf to make your car run.

With the requirements listed, I can only wish you luck. Buying a car is like finding a lady for marriage. You always get a package deal with both good and bad points.

Yes I would really like the engine to be in Top condition. Have u driven it. So what do u think of Basit as a Denter ?

While going through various threads I noticed that the bugs in Lahore and even Islamabad are in superb condition really something to drool over. Can we bring something from there.
