yes you can fit a charade diesel engine in a beetle but it's the worst think possible. it'll overheat and offer little benefit over an original 1600 running on CNG. personally i'd suggest you avoid making such a modification to a VW because once it is done the car is ruined forever.

Can ugive some input on gear shift problem. My 69 is giving some gear problems sometimes it does not go to reverse gearand some times it comes out of gear in 2nd and 3rd gear. Before giving it to mechanics I would like to take some input fromu ppl as to how to correct this issue.

I bought it in Dec 04 and it took me nearly 3 years to have it built the way I wanted it, been driving and loving it since early 06, recent developments are an a/c and a JVC AVX33 dvd player. I do want to sell it because I'm starting another vw project (trying to have a conv. or a rag top built this time), But I won't give her up unless I get what I want for it, since a lot of my blood, sweat and tears went into this car.

That's ok psyborg, I didn't have the right info before cuz I'm not too comfortable with sharing all that online... hope u understand. @ fadee I have a box a/c right under the dash with a sanden compressor. It doesn't matter how hot it is outside I can never manage to keep it on maximum for more than 15 minutes. The car gets really cold.

most likely your gear shift-rod bush is worn or missing or there is some play/wear in your shifter (the ball may be damaged or the link underneath that. i have heard of such problems but usually they are cured with some adjustments. i'd like to be able to give you better advice but i'd not like to misgude you. please haev a qualified mechanic look at it.
