before we go further, please not that thes cars are VWs, not VXs
the owner claims it is reliable,... no doubt these cars will run and run and run,.. until they catch fire or die on the side of the road. my suggestino is to factor in the cost of a complete engine rebuild (approx 7000 including some small parts but not heads and pistons etc).
finding an original VW in 70 has become next to impossible since people are askign crazy money for such cars,.. mainly because to restore one costs alot. in all honesty though most "original" beetles i have seen in PK till now are garbage (with FEW exceptions). even my 1303 isn't 100% original anymore, but i have tried to use original (or better) parts in the rebuild.
when buying a VW never let your heart get in the way. many people have bought cars which have ruined steering boxes, hidious midifications, incorrect parts, destroyed gearboxes etc... whenever i buy a VW i factor in that it will cost me at least 1 lack to have it rebuilt from scratch so that i KNOW that the car is now built right and wil be safe. thankfully since 1996 none of my VW's has ever left me stranded. build them once, build them correctly.
if you want to contact the best person in ISB for info on VWs you need to get hold of romano (Vice President of the VW club of Pakistan) as he knows more than any of us (with the exception of possibly asadishaque).
i'd suggest that if you are buying a VW for the first time you should realize that in summers you (and your car) will overheat alot, you can expect to break down on your first drive (and be stranded) and you should have at least 50000rs in your account before your first visit to the mechanic because on your first visit you will actually find out how much work is actually required on your car.
In PK many people keep their cars shiney but inder he skin they are wrecks, sadly most buyers of used cars don't know their **** from their elbows and subsequently get mesmerized by shiney paint and "half sulf" that they forget to get the car checked (and then factor in the repair costs).
i'd say you fix a budget, find a car, factor in 50000rs (minimum) for repairs & parts and then look for a car which is as original as possible (no silly jap parts fit to it) and make sure everything is working fine.
at the moment we don't know of any great cars going up for sale but if we hear of any we'll let you know for sure.
