Send me your #s. I can call you up no problem. I drive around 250 - 300 mile everyday anyways so coming close to cell reception area is not that much of a problem.

How many of you were aware that VW actually built a prototype air-cooled diesel-powered Beetle and Bus duo way back in 1951? Not many I would think. :-!

Slow as hell, but a true first - well over half a centry before today's fad for compact diesel cars in Europe. If they'd made it to production, Pakistan would have been a sure-fire export market...just look at the numbers of old Mercs floating around that are diesels.

I wonder what happened to the diesel Beetle and Bus? I don't think they're on display at the VW museum even. Would be worth a small fortune now.

A few pics of my 1302 - How much I curse myself for letting it go; after a relentless resto. I let it go to a friend thinking he will take good care, but it was sold off within days - for a few dollars more (if you know what I mean). The last time I saw her was back in 2008, if I am not mistaken it was somewhere in I/8 sector. She looked tired, dirty and molested. I felt very low, pulled over and puffed a ciggarate until I lost sight.

Razak, money isnt everything. Too many (way too many) hoarders and wanna bes out there! Money cant buy you class! Heelloo! I have heard of people buying old houses in Europe, complete with portraits of long dead ancestors! Dont sell yr cars, guns, old stuff etc to chichoras. Just dont!

Romano, you are absolutely right. I learned this lesson the hard way. You remember how I kept her, like a babby. I feel sad when I recall how I collected the bits and bobs from just about everywhere, those long and bumpy drives between Kabul and Islamabad just to get the bulky parts - even for my friends.
I feel bad, let's ditch it. I am the one guilty, I should have been mature enough to diffrentiate an enthusiast from chichoras

Paid a quick visit to Babar today, checking progress on the van. Works proceeds apace, and you can see he has also stripped the '63 Beetle, replacing the rotten side channels and with floorpan to follow. Babar IS quick when in the mood.Perhaps that Ba*#*@ T panel beater from Karachi could learn a few tips from him!
