Saw this yesterday in G-8. Roof rack and tail rack was getting fabricated. i liked the colour and neatness overall. good restore in my opinion.

i'm also getting tired of talking to the walls, perhaps more GTGs are in order so that people can start coming out of the woodwork to discuss their cars/porjects in real life.

You are right....we will plan another meet after Eid......and this time We'd announce a date and stick to it no matter who complains......

it's possible that he used the wrong pushrod.

there are 2 kinds of fuel pumps and they have different length rods

each gaskit is worth around .3mm

With the kind of gaskits available, the Brazilian ones.....I wont count on that dimension......its really a matter of hit n trial with some educated guessing when one sits down to fit a pump......

i've seen a few of those grey brazilian ones in ISB and they sucked. this is why i had my own made (can be seen in my 1303 thread). however getting local ones made means that you must sacrifice "fweem" (i'm not a huge fan though)

Hmmm. We had German ones in the market but that was years ago. Brazilian one I saw was branded so must have been good, though not anywhere near the quality of a German unit.

No it is the pump itself that has a very thin and long crack on it, difficult to see but........

I'll definitely post up the actual picture within a couple of days. Yes replacing fuel pump is not a big task for me too, provided I get my hands on one good one.

I'd be grateful if you check the local market and locate one, I've also told my mechanic to find my one ASAP.

And what? I didn't get any text from you, maybe some network issues or sometimes my phone dies when it comes to signal strength, so I believe thats why I didn't get your text. I thought they're still not available there. Do PM me your account number or when and how to send the payment, would appreciate if I can get 3 pairs of tailpipes (friend's included).

It cost me around 2000Rs, I gave proper diagrams of the muffler's interior and got it made under my supervision. Although not 100% but somehow better than the ready-made ones.

Please do post a picture.....or if you cant manage that, how about a picture from the good ole www with some labelling to show what went wrong???

One can get a second hand pump here but then its your luck how it works and whether it works.....only thing you can check on the junkyard floor is push the operating arm and see whether pumping action is present at the open ends.....

We did have Brazilian made pumps in the market here and one was bought a couple of months ago for the 74 I mentioned....

I shall pmail you my bank details once I have the pricing of the items available but please allow some time since I would have to visit the market....most probably two markets to collect the stuff for you.....

Rs2000 for a locally made reasonable muffler is not bad. I inquired recently for the same and the rates quoted were Rs2500 starting......

the "brazilian" one i saw in RWP a few months ago was absolute sh*t quality.

as i said, i like fweem in a original cars, specially early model ones (pre67), not in late model modified cars (like mine).

My Beetle has been serving as runabout, front passenger seat removed, carting compressors, paint, wood, tools, staff, you name it, its done it, and all this during the worst floods in Peshawar. Hope to have a nice vintage fire engine to show by month end!

This is the same roof rack design I mentioned on the google groups discussion. I have completed the feasibility on these and would share the same in a short while. Hopefully ours would come out as good if not better than what you see on this cool green bug.

I have yet to work out the rear rack design as we do not have a sample yet. We can go by pictures if we get desperate but having a sample bang in front would be way better.

I feel the same, honestly.

To make matters worse, I've heard from a couple of sources that back around '99-2000, a black 356 coupe miraculously turned at Shershah in KHI, that was scrapped.

Not knowing what the hell to make of, or even do, with this 'Foxy jaisi gaari', the scrappies, in their eternal wisdom, solemnly proceeded to hack up the poor Tub into a million pieces. An act of unspeakable barbarity...

But then again, every time I see an old VW abandoned under a tree, 'strictly not for sale' by its 'possessive' owner, or one showing up at the scrappies at the end of its useful life, a part of me dies too.

On the bright side, I'm hoping to check out a 1-owner '64 Bug supposedly somewhere in town very soon. Should be interesting.

sorry for picking this so late.. BUT I know of this certain 356 (it was coated with black oil) - I honestly wanted to shoot the so called owner in the head when I saw he traded it to a scrappy.. Even when I was offering good money for this car and he deliberately gave it to the scrappy - as he had a bill to settle - this certain owner was a mechanic who had this car and a Heckflosse 190D mercedes lying around for about 30 odd years in the back of his workshop near Pak Colony

Im afraid I would not be able to help you with this. I did see a Thing with an original roll cage at a garage but that project has long since been completed. The owner keeps a low profile so it would be very difficult to trace him leave alone get measurements or such.

I can try asking another enthusiast who has a couple of Things at Basit denters for resto. I dont remember clearly but maybe one of them has a roll cage.....

Im guessing an ownership dispute or a paperwork glitch that resulted in the idiot selling the car to the scrappers.....
