Now that the rebuild kits are in with Nasir bahi, we can bring them to life in the cars not running on year correct carbs...

I can’t believe this condition Rag can be in a city of Pakistan where VWCOP have so many members..
Why is the car not saved yet? I will be the first one to rescue her and pay whatever the price the current owner wants????

I don't think its Asad's car. In fact i don't think he has one! Its something I have been hearing from him over the years but was never shown me! Its just a figment of his imagination. And IF this car really is his, then its a shame that such an oldie is being treated this way. It can't be his; can it???

i know its Docs car, i think that romano is having a laugh at his expense as the car is in a real state. this is why romano had asked me to put up the pics. he found the car himself in KHI as (from what i know) asad was hiding her from him (romano is in KHI).

Now that we know where she is, Nasir & i are tempted to fly over to KHI and steal the "W" decklid BTW,...

ok so after 6 failed attempts at making appointments with Khalid electrician today i finally gave up and quite litterally thought that the chances of getting the thing wired up were over. BUT,... as usual the VWCOP management came to the rescue and Nasir arranged an electrician and told me to just come over to where he was (no questions asked). Took the thing over to him, parked her up and went out looking for some parts etc while we waited for the electrician to arrive.

i was wondering why the electrician was taking so long to come but eventually Abid ustaad turned up and got straight down to work. However while working on my car we got an emergency call from shahzeb that he needed some emergency wiring sorted on his car as his tail light werent working so we took Abid ustaad off my car to fix his problem first. Was SERIOUSLY rewarding because not only did Abid ustaad get his tail lights working but he now also has indicators and,.... wait for it,... WORKING SEMAPHORES!!!!

His car has just become that much more awesome,.. how many people can say that they have workign semaphores in PK??

Abid is an excellent workman and has previously worked on a couple of my Volkswagens (did complete wiring from scratch with excellent results) He has worked on Mercs and of course on Japanese cars. He had a good running business until he lost everything due to a medical condition of his 10 yr old daughter. His daughter has since recovered after an open heart surgery but he never recovered from the setback so works as a floater (which can be a good thing for anyone who wants work done at their place with his full attention) His charges are reasonable and workmanship beyond question. I located him in Haripur, one call and a few hours later he was in Islamabad to work on Sameer's Thing. I'll be happy to put you in touch with him if you are willing to pay him a fair wage for his work and provide him a cup of tea at regular intervals. You wouldn't be disappointed.

@Romano..Pls find out if the decklid is for sale. I may even buy the doors and the rag top clip if I get a package deal. I hope the trucking company does not have objections transporting the bird poop covered parts. I have cash waiting.

I read somewhere about another (or was it the same car?) disappearing from a Karachi road after its owner abandoned it. Wasn't that a rag-top too?

Does he have experience with conversion of 6V electrics to 12V too? Like the Dynamo/wiper motor etc? If he does, I might have three dynamos and two wiper motors waiting for him to work on. Otherwise I am going for GL chaey to Arshad next week

I know he rewinds armatures which is what he would need to do on the wiper motor. The generators I'll need to ask him. btw I do have two NOS, still in original VW box, armatures for the 12 V generators (dynamos) if you need.

Thanx for sharing the link...Karachi seems to be the only place in Pakistan where RT's and even an odd splitty is seen abandoned giving ' Dawat e-Gunah'.

Please book me one NOS armature for 12V generator. Do book me some NOS Bosch Carbon Brushes too if you are carrying any for generators.

B/w do ask Ustaad Abid too, as if he could do the job it would be great for all of the members as many may want to get their generators serviced and renewed.

done! I know that Abid did work on alternators and generators but not sure if he can take apart and put together a unit without a proper work bench and something to grip the part being worked on. I'll ask him and get back to you.

Abid says it can be done but rewinding the field coil to work as a 12 V field coil is the difficult task and he does not recommend. The armature he can re-wind if need be.
