i would love to... but lack of garage in apartments doesn't allow me for this. n i believe that for a beetle u must have ur own garage where u could do minor touch ups at least.. Insha Allah one day will have both .. the garage and a beetle..

how about this...get a rusty old bug...get a rusty old roof rack and SLAM IT ALL THE WAY!!! u dont need a garage after that!! no touch ups needed and the elements ruining the paint job only add to the theme!!

You asked very important question and I believe this should have been asked long ago. But for now I would keep to answer your question and wont go into the details of "how to prep for the desert rally".

Beside lifting the rear end of the car, you wouldn't need any modifications as such on your stock bug but you would definitely need;

-Packing (read:repack) front wheel bearings with new grease.

-Torsion leaves would need to be cleaned and filled with brand new grease making sure that all torsion arm seals are in perfect condition (as the desert sand being the finest of the sands tends to enter everywhere normaly dirt wouldn't).

-Fuel lines would need to be checked and rechecked for any possible wear (replace whatever necessary including the jubilee clips). Carry a fire extinguisher without fail!

-Change Motor Oil with "recommended" grade fresh oil both in engine case as well as air cleaner (carrying an oil bath air cleaner OIL CHANGE KIT is mandatory under such dusty driving conditions where you would need to change the oil bath air cleaner oil DAILY!)

-Check Transmission Oil/Axle Boots

-Brake Hoses/Master Cylinder need prep'ing.

-Tires better show no sidewall/tread wear (especially sidewalls).

-A spare backup wheel (yes in addition to the fifth wheel)

These are a few things I could recommend right now. Would share a thorough TO DO LIST once we are closer to the dates of the rally.

Even though this is a Type2 (microbus) headliner here in the picture but you should get the idea of how the rails look:

Only that the type1's one are hooked at the end, something like this;

Needle in a hay stack, I don't think I would be able to source these out. What if (plan B) I can't find these? How would the headliner regain the stiffness?

@reezvaan...well i happened to have the intertor lying around so i cannot quote price of the setup...what i can tell is that it delivered 1000watts at a pretty neat amperage... batteries were full overnight and i was charging 5 phones, a laptop and 3 cameras every night...so the setup worked nicely for me...

as for the setting up bit, well they come with a cigarette lighter connection so u simply plug that in and ur good to go...no wiring..nothing...i however didnt have a cigarette lighter as i didnt wanna drill a hole in the dash that wasnt meant to be there so i simply wired it to the battery positive to positive and negative to negative...

i was running an extension cord under the right rear seat where the cut out is placed in most cases.

So no fancy wiring or stuff...u just buy it, plug into your cigarette lighter and are good to go...if pics are still needed, i still have it in my car and can snap a couple and upload them...

She was born in 1974, but not yet completely operated and I think still does not need to... parked from last two or three years at the same place as told by peaople nearby.
But I am willing to save her life and INSHA ALLAH I'll be able to...
fortunately I found the owner and met him last night.

I have several pairs of beetle wiper arms that i bought off a seller in Florida. They are used but the most they require is light sanding and a spray of paint.

I have them for all years (early 60's, late 60's and the later years with the tightening nut on top) These are priced at $10 each.

Also available are Bosch wiper blades (made in Belgium) for beetles and super beetles (11 inches and 15 inches) priced at $20 a pair (sold only as a pair).
