This particular Westfalia was originally a LHD vehicle but was converted to Right Hand drive at some point. We could tell that from the placement of the sliding door and the direction of the wiper arms. However it seems that the conversion was done at a time when good RHD dash boards were available in abundance.

The Westy is presently undergoing a major look-after at Khalid Sahib's workshop in Rawalpindi where she once stood, almost abandoned by the previous owner, for almost a year. All external seals are being replaced with those purchased in the US from WCM.

All those who cast an eye on her during that period but did not decide if they wanted to buy it can learn a lesson re. acquisition of such vehicles...He who hesitates...is lost.

Looks like she never made it there and it was more of a tourist delivery in the end:)

Whats the story on this one? Who was the original owner?

I think the bus made it to the US but returned to this part of the world at some point...maybe by an expat returning home or whatever the story. Sometimes it was the tourists who'd sell their vehicles at the end of the journey and buy a plane ticket instead for the return trip.

The original owner of the bus is not known as the original registration papers were surrendered when the bus was re-registered in Lahore. We only know that far back. Btw. it is the same vehicle that made the trip from Gawadar to the northern areas of Pakistan as part of the Mobilink journey thru Pakistan.

Early Things came with solid i.e. without slots (but not smooth - bus/type2 part) Stock Steel Rims in 15" till 1972. After that the size changed to 14".

Early 15" Bug Stock Steel Rims (Normally referred to as Wide-5 as they have 5" width with 205mm (8.07inches) PCD) are easily available with vw kabaris whether in sets or as singles. I think a set of 5 rims shouldn't be costing more than 3-4K. Could be less, but shouldn't be anything over 4K.

I dont think they are that easily available...... one would be lucky if a complete set turns up....otherwise collect in ones or twos.
