am new to this thread, however appreciate the enthusiasm and helping attitude of the members.
Today went around Karachi on a preliminary reconnaissance for a bug. Met two mechs, Zarif in Liaquatabad and Rahim on jehangir road. Rahim tried to sell me a 1302 for 100k, and the baby was in shambles, according to the legend (rahim) it just required bodywork n interior redo. I just checked the pulley wheel on the engine and it had a play:S. He said he had built the engine himself 6 months ago n it was in perfect shape! The seats were from some long dead jap car, but in pathetic shape too.Saw him working. . .err. . .ba***rd**ing a 1303 with 'civic' headlights and engine and he was proud of it!!!!
I may not return to him, hopefully. Says he charges 250k to 300k for a resto n saw with my own eyes, body edges coming off and putty hidden inside showing in some of his masterpieces.
Zareef quoted some lesser rates for mech and other work. The strange thing is that both of these above characters 'dislike' body-off resto and say what is the need??

@Sabiho7, pls don't buy from a mechanic. Yr best bet is to trawl the ads on PW and other websites. Beetle owners can sometimes help you find an orphan. You can also post yr request on the Facebook/VWCOP page as well as our Google groups site. Karachi cars WILL need a frame off; the finished product will to a great extent depend on the panel beaters expertise. We can help by sending you pre cut and stamped floor panels from Rawalpindi. We can also supply you with the frame to body rubber seal.

Despair not, there is no VW issue that cannot be fixed! what year is it? can you tell what she is doing? symptoms? sounds? vibrations? rattles?

its a 68 economy 1200cc. i just got its engine overhauled as it had sealed due to no engine oil. earlier the tapot kit had probs thus engine oil leaked alot. now tht is solved. the engines sound has improved, car aint leaving any smoke anymore..
the engine aint giving probs now.. bt other probs hv started to appear. like on the 2nd day of eid the condenser gave up, had to get a suzuki one installed.
the mechanic claims the carborator is putting to much petrol in the engine... causing it to b over.. its happened once tht i open the engine lid d petrol ws leaking frm the carb..
all i want tht the car cn act as a daily driver. nt gv me these kind of probs..

Holy smokes it looks great. Needs a slight drop from both ends. What's the story behind the 1641cc?

Yup... It needs to be dropped at least 2 inches i reckon...

The story behind the 1641 is that this 1303 came with a 1300cc originally and during its time here was swapped with a 1200cc... Dont know why as there is no scarcity of 1300cc motors or parts at the kabaria's...

Since i bought it, it felt way too underpowered for my liking and luckily i came across this gentleman name Aamir Tirmizi who happened to be swapping out this 1641cc from his car with another 1600 having hydraulic tappets... i drove his bug while the engine was still in it and fell in love with the performance...

Its currently running 87mm pistons and crank is at .50mm... Carb is a 28PICT with larger jets and will be swapped with either a 30 or a 32 PICT one...

Nope... No plates... The Rims are 6" wide and wouldnt have fit if there was an adapter plate...

Had atleast 2 holes in each drum filled and then re-honed to adjust 5 bolts... New studs on all corners...

The Simota air intake won't give you any performance gains. It'll just make a not that good of a sound while accelerating. I would suggest you stay with the oil bath cleaner.

Iqbal uncle does have bumpers coming in about a couple of months, I think he told me 10-12K for a pair. I have to reserve one pair for myself once I get the chance to go there.

I'll ask for the trim set too.

Iqbal uncle at Cheap Autos has fiberglass glove boxes available @800/- a piece, limited stock. He also has a big shipment of Brazilian europa bumpers, carburetors etc arriving in about a month or so.
