on short drives the car won't have time to overheat, on long drives due to the constant forward motino the engine will get plenty of air to cool the motor.

But in ahsans case he'll be driving in lahore traffic alot and without an upgraded doghouse and oil cooler his number 3 cylinder will overheat (due to lack of air - blocked by OEM oil cooler location). that is why i said no to him.

I'm fitting an AC to my 1303 so i know it can be done but i also know how ahsan will be using his car and it'll not be a good idea for him to fit one.

But you are 100% right, it CAN be done.

bro i need your help with an explination. i have seen the following engine lid (2 vents) on a few beetes but i've always thought it was standard on the 68 (and later) cabrios (which i now know is wrong) could you please explain exactly which models this lid came on as i'm very confused on this matter. thanks in advance buddy (Y)

as far as i know, this lid did not come on the standard models... it sure was made a part of the car from the 68's, but only for the 1.5L ones to give the bigger motors extra cooling... if you notice (and if i remember correctly), even the 1974 standard did not have this kind of a hood...

@DP thanks for the explination buddy, that helps clarify my issue because when i was building my last beetle (the burgundy one it had a plain lid which was really confusing since it was an OEM 1500 (H series). i guess some previous owner retro fitted this lid to compensate for the rain at some time.

I ended up fitting a 1303 lid to my 68 for added cooling but also had to deal with water issuse since i didn't have the correct sheild on th einside of the lid for water (have got one now)

and seriously i'm not kidding, there is alot of knowledge in your posts, keep it up (Y)

no guyz this lid iz not only for 1.5 or1.6 litres cars.....my beetle iz 69 1500cc orignal .......but i dont have this vent lids in my car.............actually these r deluxe models having these lids......the white bug in this pic is 1300cc n its having this lid.

if as per your statement, ur car is 100% original, then either u dont know ur car at all, or u dont know what storm n i were talking about...

please c the circled portion in the pics n tell me what that thing is called if its not called a vent on the lids!!!
