The roofrack project has long since been in 'the pipeline'. heres the whole story.....
Some years ago I spotted a black Mazda 323 taxi outside my uni. The roofrack seemed similar!! Instinctively I dashed after it, crossing the mainroad in leaps and bounds. Indeed it was a VW woodslat roofrack tho it had been cut to fit the Mazda!
You should have seen the look on the taxi drivers face when to the answer of 'jee kahan jana hay??' I replied how much is that thing for???
Well I purchased the rack after a bit of 'gentle persuasion' and showering the man with some $$$.
I took the rack to the Jubilee Cinema area known to be the biggest and perhaps only market for roofracks. One of my denter friends was along and we trudged up and down the whole market but not a single person was willing to repair leave alone replicate the rack.
After a lot of requests one man did repair the rack (the four stands had to be elongated to the original length to fit a VW). He did a lousy job and the rack doesnt look very good.
So I plan to fabricate another from scratch. Will need to hunt down pipes of the same dia as my original specimen and then persuade one of my denters to go ahead with the mini project.
Plus we need wooden slats to complete this. And then powder coating as against painting for a tough durable finish.
So I have no idea of the cost.
Whenever I get down to it Ill let people know here.
Best regards.
