Vti D16 engine overhaul

Lets hope the new engine last long. Any specific clue that why the engine over heated after a couple of months. Any long trip or leakage in the coolent system etc.

zain, the car gradually started reducing water.i thought it is because of the local made radiator.one fine day driving in market it started missing and getting warm.checked,and gasket was gone.(though i was checking water levels at regular basis)

Its A Common Mistake Attempted By So Many VTi Owners Here In Khi Too..!

These Engines Just Get Useless When They Get Heated 3 4 Times Nicely....!! They Start Blown Gasket Watever You Do...!! Since After Heating They Just Changes Its Original Face....!!

So Swapping Assembly Is Always Recommended....!!

My Sunny Also Needs New Rings As Old Rings Get Weak..But Engine Is Damn Solid..Its Iron Block...Still I Am Thinking Either To Rebuild Or Swap Something Different....!!

Since Engines Cost Gone Quiet High Now...!!

^^ there are two type of d15's, obd1 and obd2

we could have gone for obd1, but for that the wiring and ecu needed to be changed, or a jumper to convert obd2 to obd1.

obd2 which comes in 3 stage vtec was also available and for that ecu needed to be changed also, and a wore form ecu to activate the second vtec solenoid was needed, but the problem is hash's civic is auto and the ecu the obd2 auto came with not the normal auto tranny, it came with cvt and the ecu would have thrown a lot of codes with the normal tranny and most probably would have run in limp home mode....

Sorry to hear about your experience.Did u changed the thermostat valve when car first overheated??
I think i have a clue to your overheating problem as i had faced the same issue twice with my city 2002 (D13A, same aluminum block).the issue was with ur thermostat valve,it stopped working and car overheated, i faced same situation when out of no where the temp shoot up and car overheated,it was found the thermostat valve was faulty.

3 radiator caps as well

Ohhh..tou bhai jaan yeahi tou masla hai ...
Asal cheez (thremostat,radiator cap) jo change karni chahiyae thi woh dashboard mai rakhi hovi hai ..or pura engine change karwa diya.. (J/K)
BTW did u tried running ur car without thremostat valve??

its not that simple. d16y8 is OBD2. i wanted my wiring and ecu not to be touched.
for that only D15B, with 3stage vtec can be used (which i heard makes the car sluggish n slow)

@Hash4u. Sorry to read about your ordeal. I remember negligence of my mechanic when I replaced my Khyber's gasket. First he forgot to face the head, then he forget to put a 10 rs tikki thing and I had to spend extra days in workshop and pay for oil and filters because water kept mixing with mobil oil. I was lucky that in the end the engine never overheated badly and Allah blessed me with a new car, so I sold the Khyber.

My lesson is also that rebuilds are costly and your luck counts a lot. Otherwise it is a big gamble. Either sell your car and get a new one, if finances permit, because a new car saves you from a lot of headaches for at least five six years.
