Wanted! 1992 Suzuki Mehran Complete restoration in Karachi

Hello Brethren,

Please suggest any workshop in karachi that will take my late Grand Father's 1992 Suzuki Mehran (which has been neglected and is rotting for the past 6 years) and completely restore it to its former glory. The car to some might seem a lost cause but for me it holds a great sentimental value..

The car was flooded thrice in the past 6 years, the outer panels are rusted and the interior has become a safe haven for vermin. it'll need full body work, engine, electrical and interior restoration...

please suggest any good workshop that will bring this ride back to life and is cost friendly.

Do you want to sell this particular car or keep it as a daily driver? .

If you want to keep it. You have to start from the basics and dont worry about being ripped off.

Get each and every part your self, everything from floors to roof to bumpers every thing is avaliable locally made and kabuli Indian Maruti parts are available too from Sheirshah to peshawar.

You need right connections and the car can be restored to its former glory.

Forget Mehran will ever work with a AC, unless ur planning to swap a 660cc Engine in this car.

Yes i want to keep it as a daily driver.

Yes, after doing some research i also feel that sourcing the parts myself will be more cost effective tho time consuming..

please do share more recommendations, i want this car to be back on the road even if i have to rebuild it myself.

Although Zafar is too costly but I gave my car to him upon pakwheels senior member experience because he arrange all parts himself, although he will charge you high for it but at least you will not be disturbed.

Whenever you go there, you can check with me too. If possible, I will also accompany you

Paint and body is the last thing to think about.

Work on the mechanics before anything else.

Engine,
Heating issues
Wiring
Brakes
Electricals.

Denting / Painting almost the entire Mehran can be purchased new in Parts. Check what is the condition of the engine room.

How much work does the engine room it self requires and its structural integrity.

All 4 new doors (Depending on the condition)
New front fenders ( depending on the condition of ur car)
New boot (Diggi)
New Bonnet

Consider getting seats from a 99 or earlier Car (mehran/alto) from scrap. Instead of restoring your local seats.

Dashboard and Steering wheel / Meter from UK / Europe or Indian Maruti were of very good quality if you can source them.

Also if you can source the rear suspension system springs instead of kamaniyan the car ride would be so good.

yes, the body parts will have to be completely swapped. the engine, suspension and electrical are going to hit me hard.

i had 3 restorers visit yesterday and all gave me an estimate of around 400k pkr. to completely restore with the same engine. swapping the whole engine will cost more. let me know what you think? what will be best for long term, swapping the engine or rebuilding the existing one? Also.. will an Automatic Coure Engine work?

The problem with Mehran is the old Engine setup which is too old, is spending 400k, Id rather sell this Mehran and Upgrade to a Margalla.

The Mehrans daily troubles is its carburetor, electrical setup, plugs, distributor.

Why would u want to swap a Coure engine in a Mehran. As far as I know, people are swapping R6a, k6a, also in Mehrans. Which isnt very ideal, F6A engines might be an ideal swap for a Mehran with a few alterations.

A good engine swap, would cost you around 200/250*k roughly.

Engine room alterations.
Engine assembly + Gear
Efi setup
Fuel pump.
Meter
Gear lever auto or manual.

You can find every body and interior for this car, and cheap. You can restore the entire car, with paint for 400-500K easy.

400k isnt too much actually, Sab kuch bohat mehnga hogyaa hai.

Let's make a rought estimate.

Engine/ mechanicals roughly cost 250/300
Dent Paint extreme low quality 50,000 and 120,000 hi end.

New Tires rs. 50,000 Roughly add stupnies separately.

20/25,000 suspension works.

25 to 30,000 cosmetics, interior fittings etc.

Crosses. Rs. 500,000 easily.

Restoration is only for someone whoose low on cash and wants to build the car on the go,
