technical and vocational course have vanished undergrads and grad schools are cut paste. colleges are only for enrollment and admit cards. the very same govt employeed teachers are running private coaching centres and involved in money extortion from students.

Your concerns are true. Our education system has drawbacks, in colleges we professors have been teaching centuries old syllabus which can never prepare youngsters to cope with the changing times. No technical education, no modern skills, no social ethics.
I am also very much concerned about the age old education system of Pakistan. It is not going to make the nation creative. Teachers are only bound to cover the designed syllabus and their whole struggle circulates around good grades of the whole class.
What talents kids have, what is their bent of mind, how to polish their abilities, how to teach them social ethics......Our education system is utterly devoid of these qualities, which is a sad story in 21st century.

The education system must be appropriate to the society in which it operates. Creativity cannot be cultivated by education in a society where the overarching tendency is to be conformist.

Very true. But how do you think we can go about changing these attitudes, or atleast instill creativity in our own children living in a conformist society?

It can be done, but bear in mind that significant deviations from societal expectations is a recipe for estrangement. Creative kids run the risk of growing up to be outcasts, or end up leaving.

Hi Usman,
Only two hands are there to train kids: Parents & Teachers. (I am sorry to say they themselves are not trained). Most parents don't bother for the better training of their kids. They think that fulfilling their physical needs is enough. But better training demands some extra effort.
It's also a fact we can make kids whatever we want but we have to give them that environment. We are not supposed to follow the social norms blindly. Just decide the way, do effort and reach your goal. Don't care what others say.

Some of the the reasons for lack of creativity are:

Running after grades at educational institutions. This race has to come to an end.

Then, at the university level plagiarism is destroying creative thinking. Not only the students but a number of professors regularly and rigorously indulge in plagiarism. It is nothing but theft in simple words. It is eating up whatever creativity we may possess.

For engineering graduates FYP (Final Year Project) is extremely important. It has to be based on a creative and innovative idea to apply their acquired knowledge for practical problem solving. On the contrary I have seen young engineering graduates taking it very easy and picking ideas from the internet, mostly. As a result, they fumble quite a lot during interviews for entry level technical jobs.

Another major issue at university level is the gap between industry and academia. In the west, almost all inventions and research projects are undertaken at the university level in collaboration with local industry. Our universities are neither equipped nor have sufficient research grants for taking up such projects. Not to mention lack of vision and competence level of professors.

when i was at school those were days of Taleem-o-tarbiyat. Tarbiyat was an on going activity at schools and at home. all is gone and i see no bright chance of revival in foreseeable future in Pakistan. When the so called social economic factors are hyper active to segregate religion with system of governance then the confusion keeps on multiplying., end result is always disaster.

You are absolutely true. I myself have been teaching in a Polytechnic College and what the students in their final year do. Never anything new, no research, but typical projects means copy-paste. The industry has nothing to do with this engineer's work.
I feel pathetic for the future of my young students.
Being engineers, they don't possess any particular expertise due to lack of lab instruments. During the session they many times complain against the inefficiency of the engineer teachers but nothing happens. It is how colleges are working.
Education is just business.

Those who are not educationist at all, have no motivation for youth or education are running schools. There is no loss in the school business so everyone is running after opening schools.
I am not at all satisfied with the Education System in Pakistan and the so-called curriculums.
May ALLAH have mercy on us!

schooling & education system has become a business in Pakistan. only 2 mutil billion rupee system is Beacon House & City School chains are visible examples.

To me all such institutions are Butcheries where parents are skinned and wanna-be class is groomed.

Only class is groomed. It creates social distinction and nuisance, also youth becomes egocentric and proud of elite class.They don't have any concern for the middle or low class people.
In west every flourished person tries hard to upgrade his low grade fellow beings but here our education system is playing a part in creating huge difference between classes.
Shouldn't there be a system and same curriculum for all which can fulfill scientific, technical, ethical , social and religious
needs of the nation at the same time.?
