Dear All,
Its not about the company that manufactuers an oil/lubricant, it is about its Grading/ rating of that oil if you want to consider thr Quality and Mileage. If you see the back of oil packings, grades r mentioned. The codes are as under:
API SM, API SL , API SG etc.
API = stands for American Petroleum Institute
What needs to be seen is SM/SL/SG written after API. The latest and perhaps the best standard is API SM , followed by API SL and API SG respectively.
I had been using Havoline Formula, which costs around 1600Rs, however its standard is API SL.
This is lower as compared to Shell Blue which is API SM (Also costing approx 1600Rs.)
This indicates that Havoline is charging more than shell as Havoline Formula is at par with Shell Yellow(API SL), which is cheaper than Havoline Formula.
U all may also check the grading of Shell Red or Havoline which is API SG. That is y they r cheaper than others.
PS: API SM are generally categorized for Semi-Synthetic to Synthetic Oils.
Infact Shell Black (Fully Synthetic) is also API SM, same as Shell Blue (Semi Synthetic).
I hope this answers the query
