Since we are talking of Octanes here... Is it true that CNG has higher octanage then regular petrol? Is that why the engine sprkn timing needs to be advanced?

I have a Petrol Vitz 1000cc and model is 2004, done 40,000 kms. I use Mobil1 engine oil and car is well maintained. I have experienced HOBC 13.4 lit (Re. 1000 petrol) and mixed with Supreme 17.2 lit (Re. 1000) from Caltex F-6 Islamabad and the result was same mileage which it gives on Supreme for Re. 2000.. so what i will suggest is to add HOBC instead of supreme as the mileage is 100% same and what you are getting extra is a good food for your car. In long run you will see good results.. hopefully.

true ! CNG has a higher carbon ratio with longer chains than petrol. however it being a gas is less dense than petrol. ie. lower mass to volume ratio as compared to petrol.

CNG does not have higher carbon ratio, or longer chains, its main constituent is methane with a little bit of propane and butane.... Whereas petrol contains octane...

my bad cng does not have longer chanis, but it does have a higher carbon ratio.

I called Caltex Pakistan and they told me following Octane values for fuel in Pakistan:
Supreme - 87 Octane
HOBC - 97 Octane

However in Punjab he said fuel comes from PARCO refinery whose Octane is slightly higher - around 89 Octane (don't know if its true or just marketing BS). To achieve 93 Octane he advised me to use 30liter normal/Supreme + 10liter HOBC for knocking free engine.

I recently switched to running my car exclusively on high octane and seeing a 10 to 20% improvement in mileage, plus a much better pick and running.

On a full tank, with regular petrol, city would give me about 400 to 450 KM (10 to 12 KM per litre)

On a full tank with High Octane (PSO only), mileage would go to 500 - 500KM (12 to 14 KM per litre)

Regarding price difference, it used to be 15% but now in last 2 petrol bombs, the difference is 30%+ so while previously it was a net benefit, now its a 10% net loss running on HO

it is made by cracking petrol i think, the advantage is that it combusts easier since it has a lower boiling point due to a smaller carbon chain than regular petrol,
