Its majorly because we Pakistanis will always follow what our local mechanics say.
e.g. Thermostat nikal do
engine ko aahista rawan karo
falaana, etc etc.
same with corolla 1986 - they got used to fixing it - as this model was flooded in Pakistan, and it was a quick buck for them everytime. NOW I would suggest everyone to go ask these same mechanics that did they have the factory vacuum routing diagram of the 2ELU engine it had - or how to adjust the SU carburettor. NOPE..
speaking of simplicity - this car was not very sturdily built compared to what the market had to offer, It was just the placebo effect that everyone buying a corolla was buying the best car made on earth. And also due to the scrapyard being always loaded with its parts. I sometimes wonder if its our local scrap dealers that make or destroy a cars reputation.
Compared to that cars era the Mazda lineup was extremely good - but not so popular as first it was quirkily solid built, second the scrappies did not have much of mazda parts lying around
