What will PIA replace their 747s with?

PIA is in a financial crisis, stations are being closed, cuts are being made - No chance of any new planes.

He was a Musharraf *** kisser, and he introduced military inspired livery to please him so his honesty can **** off as far as screwing up PIA traditional green tail ID since 1950s is concerned.

Well as @MominHaq said , PIA should first recover itself form its financial crisis before planning to replace any aircraft.

For the sake of the topic PIA should replace the 747's with new 747-400 or 747-800 , there is a since of pride and prestige for PIA in owning a four engines aircraft (747) .

Other option maybe , they can use their 777 on long haul flights and get new 737-800 NG or A320-21 aircraft's for short to medium haul flights .

A380 in my opinion will not work for PIA as that aircraft is designed for long haul and hub to hub travel , and as far as i know PIA is losing its ground ( routes/destinations) to other airlines,.......... as far as i know there are only 2 main hubs for PIA outside Pakistan and they are Manchester and JFK New York , A380 will only be profitable for PIA in Hajj season.

2 The 2004 Provisional tail livery
3 The 1999 Green Pashmina Tail livery

Provincial livery debuted in 2006, I wouldnt even mind PIA flying 1991 livery till now, atleast it was PIA as we knew them since childhood with the green and the familiar tail.

Probably they are eyeing on Sharjah/Dubai routes where the capacity of ATR-42s is deemed to be insufficient.

Boeing does have more sales then Airbus but Airbus gave Boeing run for its money.

A380 effed up B747 sales
A320 family reduced the Sales of B737 by almost 50%
A330 also hampered B767 and B777-200 sales.

On the other hand, B77W has given A340 family a major blow.
B747's success is still unmatched by Airbus
B737 is still the first choice of 'hundreds' of airlines.

So both these companies have pro's and con's. Airbus jets are as good as Boeing with similar operational pro's and con's.

Hence you are not correct.

I think what I would like to say; they should launch a new business plan for the airline. At the moment PIA should know their SWOT.

Strengths

· Millions of Pakistani resides outside Pakistan
· A strong Brand Name
· A national carrier

Weaknesses

· Lack of money
· Corruption
· Over employed
· Old fleet

Opportunities

· Pakistan local market(they even didn’t discover the strengths of local market)
· Millions of Pakistani resides outside Pakistan
· Using the same business concepts as other lines are using (Benchmark specially with european low cost airlines)

Threats

· Big airlines capturing their routes (they are cost efficient).
· If they don’t change the fleet they will lose market share.
· Very old style of service and business concept.

And at the end I think PIA should think about cost efficient services, 747s, 777s, A330 should not be in the list of their future plan
They should think about 737s or A320 narrow body short to medium range airplanes because these planes now can cover the markets where
PIA is existing at the moment.

Over staffing is one of the main reason I guess. In year 2008, PIA had a total number of 18,043 employees, according to airline's own advertisement given in May 2008.

In case there's no significant change in that total number of employees then:

Approximate total number of PIA employees: 18043
Number of air worthy aircraft in PIA fleet: 40
Number of employees per aircraft in PIA: 451 (18043/40 = 451)

Aviation industry standard is 100 to 130 employees per aircraft.

PIA would never go for 744 as they are not "fuel efficient" . read quite a while back that there were talks of acquiring A320s.

harronzafar they need big aircraft for Saudi routes, old 744 much better option then new or used 777-300, also for Europe and East Asia they definitely need used A330-200, or go for new 787.

Pia is looking to buy A-320 NEO's or 737 NG's. Most probably will end up buying the boeing due to U.S govt pressure.
Atr-72's will also be aquired.
All existing 747's and 737's will be grounded by the end of this year.
Pia will have to buy new 747's otherwise it will be impossible for the airline to operate during the hajj seasons. i hope we get the -8's!
