The market's getting there. Affordable sports cars should be the next target segment, IMO.
@captnis
Thanks, again!. The Ford Fiesta in the photo lists for INR7.78lac on the road with tax/title/reg. ex-Madras.Ford cars are made in Madras(Chennai), so one gets a 'resident' discount and corporate and loyalty discounts too can bring the price down a bit to INR7.6lac , if applicable.First year insurance is paid by Ford(India). What you get for the money is a 1.6liter 110bhp Ford Duratorq high output engine, power window/doors,remote lock/immobilzer, tilt adjustable power steering , ABS/ABD , Airbags , factory fitted 6-cd changer/6-speaker sound system , a/c standard , alloy wheels , fog lamps and tint plus some other features which i don't remember now like cigarette lighter etc.. The best Fiesta version is the "S" which is a high performance sports version and i have profiled it in previous pages in this thread.
A best seller in the "Supermini" segment of the Indian market, the Hyundai i-10, also made at Hyundai's 2nd largest car factory in the world, located in Madras(Chennai). The car in the pics below is a Magna model with automatic transmission and comes equipped with power operated windows/doors, remote lock , power steering , 1.1liter "kappa" high output engine with 90bhp , cupholders and some other stuff, except for a sound system. Hyundai(India) offers a sound system only as a dealer accessory in it's economy models. This car cost INR4.6lac on the road with tax/registration and is now being manhandled by a twenty something guy who works in our office!. I took the pic before the alloys and other stuff is added on.WIth a 10% down and a 7-year monthly payment plan @9.5% interest rate thru dealer assisted bank financing it is quite an affordable/practical car for a single person or as a starter car for a middle class family.

Or, you can buy the upmarket i-20 that comes fully loaded with telescopic steering @RS6.40lacs ex-Chennai
