Thanks to illness my vacation got postponed but i feel much better now to wander around a bit so i decided to drop in and check out the Etios sedan in a showroom near me. My initial impressions are :

• The car has space!. Lots of interior space. Even with the driver's seat pushed backward fully, one can sit comfortably. If this car came with a front bench seat and console or steering mounted gearshift it will be a runaway hit. An easy five seater.

• The trunk is huge. A man can get in and out easily if need be. Another surprise!.

• Dashboard plastics leave much to be desired but the center instrument cluster is ok. Doesn't feel too far away like in some other cars.

• Seats are firm but adequate.

• Exterior fit and finish is A plus. Interior is a B and reeks of cost cutting.

• Visibility is good but yet to test on road.

• Standard engine is a 1500cc power mill. More than adequate for size of car with enough horsepower to pull it.

• Price range is between RS 5 and 6.5lacs on road ex-Chennai. ABS/ABD and traction control addon will push the price close to 7lacs. Pricing is everything in this segment here and Toyota got it right this time.

A road test is planned this coming week and i'll post a complete review in the blog. Till then...

Another long weekend due to the harvest festival and a holiday week for many so the roads are quiet, including the suburban roads(couple of pics here), almost devoid of pesky three wheeler delivery vehicles, cyclicts and autorickshaws. I wish every week was like this!.

Pete's is an aftermarket tuning firm based in Kerala state and i've profiled them earlier too. The firm has gained an all-India reputation for performance and quality. I've had the opportunity to have taken a ride in a tuned Octavia by Pete's and i was literally blown away. Below is their version of the VW Vento.

This might sound harsh, but I wish there was a way to exterminate all two and three-wheelers from the country. Needless to say, our roads would be so much nicer without them. South Bombay motorists have it slightly easier because of a permanent ban on autorickshaws and heavy trucks on our streets.

You know you dont need an "invite" This is very much a car spotter's paradise and I'd throw in some safari's and stunning landscape's in the bargain

By the way the new VW Anorak is proving itself to be a best seller here. Been for a test drive....... very nice!

I concur. South Bombay is a haven unlike driving in Delhi and Chennai dodging these critters.

The Anorak looks cool. They should intro it in India and give the Xenon some competition.

'Caged' is an understatement. It is begging to be driven like the R8 below.The owner of this car takes it regularly for a spin on the track.

Meanwhile, there's a 5.2liter V-10 R8 on display at the local Audi showroom. Yummy.

Mahindra's purchase of Ssanyong Motor is paying off, i hear and the 'Korando' will be available for approx. RS15lacs for Indian buyers. Good news for SUV fans here.
