Corolla is just another sedan for us guys and witness the dismal sales of Toyotas in China too. Only you guys glorify the Corolla , which baffles us all no end. Suzuki is popular only because they Indianized their products which Toyota is now doing with the Etios range of cars. And, that's why Toyota is up to 9700 cars month-on-month with the popular Innova and Fortuner. And, this figure is still twice what Toyota sells in Pakistan, for example , in a month. Expect Honda sales to start climbing once the BRIO is released and the new Civic too should bring them back up a bit.

Another interesting thing is that VW Vento sales are more now than the king of its segment honda city.Also ford figo sales are very impressive, how you find figo and what is the reason of its success(very strange though that it has no ABS).

@ sdogar: The Maruti 800 isn't sold in tier 1 cities (like Bombay, Delhi, Hyderabad, Madras, Bangalore) 'coz of strict pollution norms. Figo Titanium models are sold with ABS.

Uhhh, I'm on the fence about this one. Automobile design may have come of age in terms of design efficiency, but as far as aesthetics go, a lot of 'em have started to lose it. I get the whole platform sharing bit, but I can't seem to understand why they make the rear quarter of most new cars look like the rump of an obese person (not that I have anything against them), or design the wheels and tyres two sizes too small. The Nissan Sunny for example, is weirdness at its modern best. Baffling.

The M800 is sold mostly in town/rural areas as long as stocks last and then kapische. @BW is right about the emissions stuff too. re: Vento, Indians prefer German brands and the Vento is the new darling of the middle class car buyer. The Vento is a worthy rival to any Honda/Toyota too.

As i've mentioned earlier, Indians are nationalistic like any other and the only way an import brand can make inroads in this market is to play on these sentiments and the people respond. The Figo is the first in line of Ford's all India lineup and made only in India but shipped worldwide too. The Fiesta sedan is popular but not as much as the Figo 'cause it's sold in China too. Buy a Hyundai i-10 in Mexico city and it will have a 'made in India' sticker on it. The Toyota Etios is all-Indian ,including the engine. You get the picture, i hope.

The new Sunny is mind boggingly ugly. The Fiesta looks ok to me. let's wait till the car is in showrooms, i guess. re: rear design, da majority like dem rumps big and round.

No 7th gen Civic in India. 'Twas but a little over a decade and a half ago and your auto industry was in far better shape than the Indian auto industry. The Lancer was considered a "luxury car" once upon a time.

Sunday Funday?. NOT. Every bar has IPL playing on the screen. Cricket, again. It was fun, i admit , watching Mumbai Indians decimate the Delhi Daredevils, after a few sips of the potent potable. And, watching former foes in the World Cup now playing on the same side was kinda ironic which just goes to prove the obvious. Money talks and Bullsh*t walks.
