Guda interesting thread (Y)
@s90
Thanx!. I've got busy. I'll be back and post some more pics and facts on bestsellers in all segments in the Indian auto market. Lots of interesting things going on here...For eg., this Ford Mondeo can be bought for 4.5lac..it is a 2003 model...Ford(India) is tooling up for the intro of the 2009 Mondeo, so the old model can be had on the cheap...once a model is discontinued, prices fall considerably here!...
2003 Ford(India) Mondeo...asking price INR 4.5lac
later..
yes i did check the thread. sometimes it looks as these spy pics are released by the company themselves
@nickatnite
Very nice pics and you've covered a large range of cars and SUV's..... great work mate ! I like the new Swift, well, the roof at least as it reminds of a the mini Cooper roof lines Hope to see more from you in the future.
NICE ACCORDI LIKE THAT SUZUKI SWIFT
@hassam
Which spy pics?. The pics in the Maruti thread are of existing cars. Since there has been a couple of new releases like the SX4 and the DZire sedans, i thought i'll revisit the Maruti stable. Most of the pics in that thread are my own!.
@Ducati @fahdkhichi
Thanks!.
Is there a potential for diesel engines in the Indian market?
@salmanf1
Almost all auto manufacturers offer diesel versions, except the largest, Maruti-Suzuki!. Diesels are slowly gaining in popularity, especially with high gas prices.Hyundai offers the best diesels in India.
Are there emission laws for diesel engines just like gasoline?
the only homegrown SUV to consistently figure in the top ten list is the Mahindra Bolero...it looks rugged and costs 5.19lac new....with a 2523cc diesel engine designed by Peugot...available in 4 and 2WD....Mahindra Motor sold 5541 of this model in the domestic market in April 2008
All cars in India are certified to Bharat Stage III emission norms which are similar to Euro Stage III emission norms. The ARAI(Automobile Research Institute of India) is the homologation body that certifies manufacturers.For eg., all cars in India are mpfi, by law.

I was well aware of the gasoline engine emission laws in India but was not too sure about diesel emission laws. Thanx for the info. by the way, great pictures.
Another bargain....the Hyundai Elantra...new or used , available with steep discounts as the replacement sedan, the Avante(check out my thread on the New Delhi Auto Show on PW, where i have showcased the Avante) is being tooled up for production...Approx. 7lac brand new, a Hyundai dealer will gladly get rid of excess stock with a discount of upto 50,000!...
well this truck has extraordinary analogy with G class (sides) and with Cherokee's (front)
The same rules applies to diesel emissions as well. The diesel Accent is a pleasure to drive and i wish they would sell it Stateside!.
Stateside they simply hate diesel. I live in CA, I do not remember when was the last time I saw a diesel vehicle that was not a heavy-duty truck. At this time, I am not even sure if diesel make sense in CA market bcoz diesel price in about $5.00 a gallon.
Another top ten bestseller in the Indian market is the Toyota Innova minivan...averages 8lacs retail..Toyota wish that the Corolla sold that well!...
I know. Remember the VW Rabbit diesel?. Here diesel is way cheaper than gasoline. Diesel retails for 35 rupees average , while petrol 49 average.
