actually i was using wrt54g AP for last 2 years and unfortunately it burnt out.
i prefer this due to its signal strenght and range as i am using this for my two story house as well as for my attached lawn.
its performace was brilliant.
if you have any experience as an alternative in N series(any brand) of this having strong signal and range, kindly let me know.

I sent a Dlink wifi router N series to my parents in Pakistan abd works very well much better then local tplink. No dead spots. The Adsl router might not work as most of time the provider of the modem have programed it for use to their network only, like Verizon adsl router never worked for me on PTCL when I took it on my trip to Pakistan . Thats the reason the provider here in US gives you free equipment as far as adsl modem.

I had using Tplink single antenna 54mpbs router since the last 4 years and its been working flawlessly. I have recently upgraded to a 300mbps router but not because of range, because of speed.

If you're looking to transfer large files for your home network or looking to stream HD movies across your home then you need a router with a higher bandwidth.

If you're living in an area where there are many wifi signals around then its better that you go for a dual channel router.

If you are using DSL connection and looking to hook up your dsl modem with the router then i would suggest that you get a single device and you'll get the best pings.

Range can be extended by connecting wired antennas and placing the router intelligently. If you live in a double story house , place your router in the exact center on the upper floor but close to the floor. You can also get two cheap routers , one for each floor you can use same SSID for both routers. Works well!

Remember the only reason you might wan't to get a really expensive Cisco or other fancy router is if you are looking to stream IPTV over WIFI. Multi casting on a non supportive router will clog your network and you will have to restart the hardware.

Cloud is your personal wifi space and it is usually less than 50 feet(without obstacles) . It does not have the power to go beyond.

Linksys in my opinion is like a Mercedes - expensive but worth every penny in terms of range and durability.

D-Link is like Toyota/Honda - serves the purpose.

TP-Link - Suzuki - cheap in both terms. Quality may be good initially but it needs to be replaced in three to four years.

TP Link experience is based on three people's and D Link is my own. I have happily owned D Link for over six years and it's still doing fine. Only issue I face is of range across four walls. My room is at the back of the house and signals are dead towards the front, 2.25 kanals if that's how you talk.

To improve, I have placed it on top of my fridge, next to the window. This is how I now get net better at other places. Also, I read placing a tin can, say of Coke, enhances the range even further.

Dont know about tin can but routers work in terms of displacement. Keeping the router high up is not good for signals Because it would bisect every wall diagonally thus increasing the resistance. A three inch thick wall can easily be converted into a 2ft thick if u place the router on top on one side n a device on the bottom of the other side.

Tplink may b a cheaper brand but works well for a general user.

Using a router in a large house is different than using one in a densly populated apartment where thr r already 15 routers occupying channels. Infact its not just the routers, typical cordless also clog the 2.4ghz frequency. In such places a dual band router with automatic chanel switching is reqd. Its not neccesserily the most expensive router with the coolest flashing lights.

TL-WR940N purchased @ 2750 Rs. from hafeez center.
placed on old linksys wrt54g location.
signal strength is better than old linksys. browsing is not verfied yet.

after using Linksys N series router for almost a dacade, i finally shifted to TP Link TL-WR841HP as i needed a single router to provide reliable signal both down and upstairs to many devices including TV, Home theater, laptops, tablets, mobiles, radios blah blah.

in transition i used, Tenda, netgear, D link , belkin etc. but surprisingly this device by TP Link has impressed me alot, yes i have replaced the original antenna by 8dbm longer antennas,

only drawback is file transfer speed between computers is around 10-12 MB/sec, other than that it is providing a solid service for almost 04 years now. 24/7 nonstop, never down even for a minute.

experts let me know, is it time to change it considering the extended service time?

I have a Huawei hg8247h optical wifi router and want to attach a second wifi router to it using its LAN port. Purpose is to increase the range of wifi to cover all of home. Anyone knows which is the best router to use with my existing one.
