Let me clear something out here, although you are right on your part, but wax doesnt work that way.
There are two types of waxes, 1 Carnauba and 2 Synthetic
Pure carnaubas are made out of naturally occuring ingredients whilst synthetic are man made chemicals.
Waxes are basically to top off any paint correction you've done on the paint, What you're refering to is not kind of correct, a wax wont protect/prevent against scratches, it would just lock the shine and glaze which is achieved after paint correction so that you could retain it for a longer time.
There are cleaner/polishing waxes which might take care of swirls but not on an intensive scale.
So the bottom line is, nothing would prevent scratches, wax, polish, wash, clay bar. You have to prevent scratches yourself.
