Who works for the Automotive industry here?

Just wondering how many of us here actually work in the automotive industry, either in Pakistan, or abroad? And what is your job function?

I do, designing and coding engine management ECU's for diesel engines.

Isn't there a Land rover assembling facility in Pak too? There might be good demand for you there too

I worked for Ford 2 years ago but now working in private dealership and studying Automotives... Last Year... Phew........

i also dis automotive engineering.
there is no production plant for Land Rover in Pakistan.
i am doing business in PAKISTAN and with the grace of ALLAH, my business is on right way to success.

No...its Not bechelors, masters, or anything close to that.. What I'm doing is called Automotive Service Technician diploma... it's 2 year diploma...

After this I am going for mechanical engineering... which is 4 years but I'll get it done in 2 years because the uni is going to count in my diploma...

I could have done the 4 years degree but in that one you don't get as much pratical experience as you do in diploma programs.

And when I am done with all that I am going to write my mechanic licence... IF I do pass that I'm going to open a repair shop/dealership.

but getting the licence isnt easy.. the exam is very tough *-)and without it.. if you open a shop.. you end up behind bars... lolz

but anyway... I don't thnink I'll ever stop studies... I am not in this trade to make money or whatever.. yeah.. mechanics do make A LOT of money in here.. but thats not what I am in for..

I like cars.. not like fency or sports.. just cars.. like fixing them.. like learning stuff about cars... like reading repair books...

when my friends are out there chilling.. I stay in home and read books...

Gm, Ford, Valvo, Chrysler, Honda and Canadian tire...

specialization programs include like

electronic fuel injection, transmissions and drivelines, air conditioning and SSB (Steering, Suspension, Brakes)

lots of body work programs too...

The course sounds great. And I totally agree with you that the practical hands on knowledge is important. If I was you I would have also chosen the same path especially when the two years will be exempted in the future anyway from your next Mech engg course
I havent studied automotive, but have done quite a bit of work on my cars, from servicing to replacing head gaskets, pistons, rings, berings etc. Basically I never take my car to a mechanic, I do everything myself so far. As you say mechanics make a lot of money, its same here in the UK too, they charge absolutely crazy money (anything from £40 to £90 GBP per hour!!).

Coventry is quite a nice place to study. It isnt a huge town, but still quite good and lots of asians there too.

When exactly are you planning to start there?

Inshallah you will get it. I am seeing more and more Pakistani students coming here for study every year even though the fee keeps increasing!! more and more people are getting student and visitors visas these days.
