Why D15B 3stage Vtec is more fast and powerful then D16W9 stage Vtec?

I have a carby D15B3 and it is equally powerful as a 3 stage.. Go figure!!

Actually 3-Stage vtec is multi stage Vtec. In Stage 3 Vtec from 5.2K RPM till rev limit high lift cam lobe is activated. It gives highest airflow. 3 Stage allows engine to run in Economy, Standard and Performance mode. There is a record of D15 VTEC E for achieving 30Kmp/l at constant speed of 60km/h it is Stage 1 Vtec. D16W9 is 2 stage Vtec. With small mods D15 can easily kill D16.

D15B in 5th and 6th gen Civics is faster than D16W9 in 7th gen one only because those are lighter and have better traction, thanks to superior suspension.
It's not right to think that D16W9 is inferior or less powerful. The whole 7th gen package, car+engine, is slower than the earlier ones though.

That theory has its merit only for pre 7th gen Civic. 7th gen D15B is not for power, it's a VTEC-E motor.

I have recently swapped D15B block in mine and thought it would might be good in economy, but its almost equal to D16W9 but yes seems better in power..may be because of higer jappnies quality not low level stuff for Pak ;p

Higher Japanese quality? You do realize that all the engines are made in Japan anyway? And for the record, D16W9 is better motor, and more powerful, than its Japanese D15, D17 counterparts.

D16W9 IS 3 stage VTEC- similar to those Japanese D15B 3 stage in older models- only BETTER.
Small mods like what? I think it's right to believe that there's no replacement for displacement, even if it's as little as 100cc. That said, in a similar car, D15 cannot kill D16.

You could be right, but let's just talk figures:

1. All D17s are VTEC-e (atleast all I've come across, or heard of anywhere).
2. They do have more slightly torque, but D16 has better output power.
3. Being a 3 stage VTEC, D16 has an aggressive cam which makes it rev friendly.
4. D16 has shorter stroke, that should make it reach its redline faster.

I have a 2005 Civic which is running on its second D17 swap. So I have personally experienced 2 D17 motors, and a D16W9 that came stock.
In my experience, D17 pulls better on lower speeds but D16 was much more alive above 5000 rpms, especially in 3rd gear and above.
D17 returns better fuel economy, and better low end torque.

And, last not but least (this is for gujar96) neither of this engine in 7th gen is faster than my 2000 Civic with D15b 3 stage. I know it does sound like a sore fanboy- but the fact that I'm not bothered at all to prove it on road, should spare me the shame of being taken as one.

Bro i m nt a technical guy. But rite now i own both. D17a2 in 2002. Nd a 2006 vti stock, just 54k on clock. I know the power differnc. I drive both.
U must didnt get a gud condition d17 on swap.

See, my D17 does 12-13 km/l in city- and it happily manages to go to 180 on motorway, never pushed further- and I'm running it on fully synthetic with no blows or anything. That's good enough condition for me.
+ I said it's my second D17 for the same car, both could not have been bad.
+ In last couple of years alone, I've bought atleast 7 D engines for myself or friends.

Anyway, I could be wrong. It's just that in my experience D17 pulls better in first couple of gears, but D16 revs better in later gears.

Well i can't say about anyone else's car but back when i was in Pakistan i had Civic Vti 2005 which i bought brand new and i raced against corolla 1.6 se saloon 2005 and corolla was chasing dust once a young boy of my street came and said meri xli zaida bhagti hai it was 2010 corolla and that too. Only 1ZZ-FE Toyota Altis 2006 gave a bit tough time to me as it was 1800CC with hardly 15k kms and mine was about 60k kms but my car went neck to neck with it till 160 then it K.O me. Just a matter of fact i have taken that stock D16W9 to 205km/h on motorway and corolla 1.3-1.6L category i doubt go till this mark as i remember there was a friend on pw also who had corolla 4AFE and i also won from him in drag. And yes i respect civic 6th gen and your fast D15 2000 civic too.

Brother Altis 1.8 1ZZ-FE is 140HP 1800cc VVTI whereas Civic Vti D16W9 is 130HP 1600CC. Low end torque is not good of altis but after 4k rpm it roars. But if 1ZZ-FE is raced against R-18 Civic then probably civic would win.
