Why is the price of cars in Pakistan 3-4times expensive than in any other country !?

The heavy import duties and taxes in 1 go result in extremely expensive cars (a 1000cc used import costs 10 lacs these days) what they should do is that they can impose good road tax on yearly basis, they can earn more by doing that,

But as we can see that the Punjab government has imposed tax of Rs. 2 lacs on already heavilly import duty / taxed cars this is unacceptable !

I see people coming out on the road, no food, no transport, no electricity, no water and the seths ruling us have mansions in Europe and UAE why ? why ?

common man's issue is not 14 lac car... his issue is providing 2 times meal and drinking water to his family.
his issue is getting educated his children...
his issue is loadsheding despite paying inflated bills..

All the above arguments are absolutely true. The local assemblers in cahoots with the government are simply lookting the public. The CKD duty has been lowered to 20% from 25% in this budget but have the prices come down? No!! Instead they have increased the prices.
The US Dollar to Rupee rate is also pretty steady so that can't be used as an excuse but still the assemblers find some reason to increase the price.
You may have noticed that after every few months some minister threatens to allow import of cars at reduced duties but also notice that the minister goes quiet after some time. He just wanted a few new cars as gifts and on getting them simply shuts up.
We the public are the suckers here. The assmblers are making colossal profits and the government is taking our money as taxes so who really cares except us.

^ good idea is to buy a mehran today even in our grand children's time the same mehran would be rolling out from Paksuzuki at unaffordable prices.. all our grand children would have to do will be to replace the bumpers

The car under discussion is Toyota Camray. Why on God's Green Earth you stick to Mehran all the times? Like Honda and Toyota are doing wonders?

I would like to read the views of our experts in this forum or visiting, i recently moved to saudi arabia and am shocked to see that the price of
CAMRY (which is considered a basic mid size car here ) in Saudi Arabia costs only 1.400.000Rs. 14 lacs only !!! and the price of CAMRY in pakistan is Rs.6.700.000Rs. 67 lacs , that is almost more than 300% , considering the policies on Petrol/fuel/cng , these cars if not low should be sold for atleast the same amount due to the heavy petrol prices , but why isn't anyone doing anything to ease the burden of a common man so that HE TOO can have a chance to improve his standards !?

This is an issue that lies way low in the list of priority of Pakistanis. But it does have a disturbing value. We are suffering from such diseases because we are not REALLY making a a serious attempt to cure ourselves.

Corrupt government is a result of senseless and selfish voters. Unaware, uneducated and morally weak people elect leaders like we have today. BUT ... this isn't the real problem!

What is the voting trend in our General Elections? How many of us Pakistanis turn out to cast our vote? Actually, 15 - 20 % of the entire population!!!

Most of the remaining people don't cast vote because they DON'T want to elect 'anyone' of the available junk! So, the problem is "LACK OF TRUE LEADERSHIP" who may attract remaining 80 - 85% population of Pakistan to elect them!!!!

Short-term solution is .. In the next General Election, dump all the current leaders, irrespective of their political affiliation to any party, who are tested again and again for their corrupt, selfish and unpatriotic characteristics. Find and convince good, patriotic, educated and clean character individuals in your surrounding area, village, town and city for standing as an independent candidate in next General Election. The more they are in number, the stronger their influence will be in National and Provincial Assembly! Don't elect political parties, elect individuals!!!! Be watchful of the fact that these individuals will make the Party what they themselves are!!! Example: Current condition of PPP!!

Long-Term Solution is .. Educate Pakistan!!!! Make people wise and sensible enough to identify the 'germs and viruses' causing sickness to Pakistan! Give them the moral courage that only education cultivates in human being, to reject ill-pressures and be ready to stand for their rights!

We need new minds, new leaders, new and bold decisions, and most of all, Patriot Pakistanis in whose priorities, Pakistan and its Nation comes first always and every time!

May Allah grant us true and sincere leadership who may guide us out of this current crisis of misery and shame! Ameen!

price of camry is justified bcoz on toyota japan website camry costs 32800 $ + 1500 $ shipping to pakistan= 30 lakhs + about300% duty + luxury tax for 2500cc = price justified 70 lakhs.

kuya, we cant compare car prices with that of Saudi Arabia as taxes and duties are either Nil or very low there. However, your concern is valid. My observation comparing prices with other countries make me conclude the following:

1. Heavy duties and taxes
2. corruption at higher level
3. no price control policy coupled with poor quality
4. literally no competition.

I had Civic reborn in Philippines for four years and believe me during that period, I only spent on regular check ups by Honda and once on battery; no rattling from any side of the car. My friend in US was wishing to buy used Hummer, he said it will not cost more than $20k. Can you buy Hummer in our country for $40k?

Having said all of this, we as consumers are equally responsible. We enaabled monoply of Honda, Toyota and Suzuki by only buying these brands for few reasons re resale and low maintenance cost.
