IMF demands are a sham. They've never addressed real issues nor will, over long term. They demanded higher income tax rates for salaried class which are already overburdened. The incremental increase in revenues isn't much compared to the stress being felt by salaried class all across the nation. Had IMF been any effective, they would have gone for addressing main issues in our economy. They would have demanded cut in ever rising defence expenditures and non developmental expenditure related to huge size of our cabinet, ministries and bureaucracy. They would have asked for taxes on land and property including agriculture which is completely free of tax. No demand either for attracting FDI via privatization of white elephants like PIA, SSGC and all other inefficient government run institutions that are bleeding billions of losses every year.

The real wealthy and elite class of the country don't pay much income taxes yet the salaried class always bear the brunt of these short term IMF dictated measures. IMF just went after the low hanging fruit by demanding govt to reject change in tax slabs proposal they initially submitted and went after substantial rise in tax rates despite inflation rate above 20% that is already crippling the saving of salaried class. This will have no benefit over long run and will just contribute towards wealth disparity among rich and poor.

Property dealers, Giant and Medium businessmen and fuedals are biggest tax thieves... They are part of every govt.

Observe in any Pakistani event, All I use to hear was "plot, commercial, file, "soda" Property does not yield jobs, neither participate in economical growth... While 80% of Pakis assets are in form of some property.

Until the "REAL" property dealers are in this business (which means till last inch of Pakistan left), this class will keep enjoying..They will continue building societies even if country have to grow wheat and rice in pots...

Don't really think it is the IMF who demands in such way. It is the government that sees taxing us the way they are doing easy peasy. Perks of govt employees and their expenditure from our money is never proposed by the people on our side. IMF asks for money, that's what I think and that sounds logical too. The bank would not care if you are returning loan installments after snatching a mobile and then selling. All they want is the money.

How is running your own damn country IMF's responsibility. They obviously will say to tax the living hell out of current tax payers in order to get their money back, just like you would if you were in the loan business.

The problem lies within the country where the top rich elite enjoy tax free lives and they have laws and bylaws made for this exact purpose. Stop blaming IMF and start fixing this mess that Pakistani people have created themselves.

if Pakistan was a person, and IMF was a commercial bank then the situation would be that, the person is not paying back loan on claims of poverty, yet lives in a gold mansion and is chauffered in hand built rolls royces.

Muslim development stopped centuries ago due to mullahism, when masjeds became commercial temples.

My post above was in response to the comment made above that "IMF demands will do good for the country in long term". You've taken that way out of context to presume that my post above in any way implies that it is IMF's responsibility to run Pakistan - it is not. It is countries like Pakistan that desperately go after IMF as last resort, not the other way around.

The barren water table erroded land of certain 'corrupt' minister generate an income of several millons which is declared as tax free. Isn't it criminal act ?? corruption money declared as agri income of barren land.

90% of legislative house in Pakistan are occupied by so called 'malik, khel, tiwana, kiyani, chauhdary, meyan etc etc', will there be real tax reforms to actually net such big sharks under tax circle .
