Those living in the Gilgit-Baltistan of Northern Pakistan were cut off from the rest of Pakistan until 1978 due to the inpassable terrain and lack of roads. You could take a small airplane, but that was reserved for only the richest citizens.

How about the road/track to Shangla Top in Swat? went there in 98 and boy was it scarry! Infact it was more of a dirt track and believe me when I tell you that it was one traumatic ride. We were in a '79 corolla we hired from Saidu Sharif. Sorry no pictures of back then.

This looks photoshoped, the texture of left and right parts doesnt match at all, and the truck in the left part is 100% indian and the vehicles and persons on right side are 100% pakistani.

@humsafar77...well done for detecting the photo being a fake one...i saw this pic somewhere else too and thought it to be an extremely dangerous road...but now its clear that the photo is fake and has been doctored using some good and some bad photo-shopping skills.. check the green spray painted casually below the blue vehicle..poor effort to create the effect of green grass or moss.... additionally the rocks texture on the right and left side is way too different..!!!! busted...!!!

true...the right side of the pic is from Pakistan...but the left side iz from India ...as this shape of trucks are usually found in India (TATA company etc)...so all of it is not Northern Pakistan... !!!

@poster...do u have more pix of the muddy /marshy road in the very first post... i hv read about the same muddy tracks which once saved Russia during World War-2 when the fast advancing German tanks and armoured vehicles got bogged down in the marshy mud of Western Russia...!!!
