oil control rings failure is common, when shifting from thick oil to thin synthetics.

i have discussed this with @Xulfiqar and @capsat in another thread and according to that its never too late to shift back to oem oil viscosity. its all myths by ustad mechanics here

Bcz the poster is already using 20w-50 since long time, that's why.

The question is, why we people just shift to thick oils when things work fine, just bcz of these hathora mechanics suggestion k sir g gari 100k kms chal chuki hai, ab mota aail dalain, wrna engine faarigh hojana.

I suggest one should keep using the thinner oils until the car gives any issues. Just don't shift to 20w-50 by judging the car's mileage.

yes things works fine but you see the internals esp oil pump is under stress for working against more viscosity oil than oem recommended which may lead to its premature failure. additionally working against more viscosity means more resistance hence decreasesd fuel economy

If your oil control rings fail, the engine starts burning oil at the rate of a litre per 100 kms, meaning its trashed already. Oil control rings fail by using thick mollases oil which has a poor high temperature rating.

Why do you guys need to challenge the manufacturer - e.g. if they say to use full synthetic 0w20 - dont put 20w50 because ustaad with 20 saal tajurba said so.

I am very happy with this car, Though I have Gli 2017 ofcourse in much better condition but I like 2006 build quality far more than newer

I am at Thokar Niaz Baig, can visit Shaheen Motors, but I had bad experiences with them in past. Should I visit for engine?

Any idea if brand new engine is available? If yes, I can go with them as rest of my car is in fine condition.

they have mileages in 400k to 500k

over several other forums & admitted by toyota X-NZFE & X-KRFE series high milage engines are notorious for oil consumption. - 500 ml per 1000 km is fine

Good Suggestion, will try replacing the PCV Valve on my Corolla Altis 2005 which was showing similar problems

Although having faith in Toyota's engines myself, I'm somewhat shocked to see the 2NZ being considered as a reliable engine, capable of this mileage. I have owned alot of older Toyotas with iron lump engines that refused to die, but my experience with the 2NZ isn't good.

My used but "mint" 2009 Corolla only ran for 76,000 kms before needing new valves. It was anything but reliable. Car's history was not too bad considering the mileage, yes it was used on cng for a while with 20w 50 all it's life, but was a weekend only car when with the previous owner (whom I know). Everything but the engine was mint. A two way trip to Lahore would see the dipstick showing absolutely no oil. It would also exhibit weird problems every once in a while, which I got really tired of (low idle speed, bad oil pump, bad fuel pump, weird problem with temp rising, intermittent engine knock, loss of power all of a sudden). I don't know what the previous owner did to the engine but it behaved lie a very high mileage motor. I sold the car at 86,000 kms.

Apart from the engine, the car looked, smelled, felt, rode and drove like a sub 20,000kms car. It was weird.

Nothing was bad with that car. It was cng that was weird in the equation not the engine.

You forgot the part where the owner used 20w50 and only drove it over weekends.

your previous owner (your freind) basically murdered the engine dead.

cng usage and bad lube oil is a recipe for disaster. If he had been using the correct 5w30 recommended lube, and driving it on the regular the engine would be fit as a young horse.

Toyota vehicles usually have space ship mileages and are in good mechanical condition, provided the owner was not hell bent on destroying it.

Yeah the orig owner was an older banker uncle who passed away, car went to the sons who rarely drove it, was maintained by Toyota society and that dealership uses 20w50 in these cars. People's dependency on these shitty dealerships destroy good cars.

Was an excellent car otherwise, I know it was just a Corolla but the car had character! Sad to see it become a basket case.

Stay away from old cars which are rarely driven, they are usually really bad deals, driving for short distances accumulates moisture in the oil and as it never actually fully warms up the oil never is able to boil out the vapour - which then destroys the engine, this is exacerbated by using a very heavy viscosity oil like 20W50.

I had a ton of customers who originally believed that a "kam chalee howee" car was the deal of the century - till they got the inspection report I would give them. - They usually needed assistance in removing their jaws from the floor.
