Cutting up the reeds is not a good option - they will fracture at high rpm and destroy the engine - it would be better to find a fiber reed cage,
I have done this but it was along with a hand built exhaust and and worked ports. The bike was very snappy in the mid range. It was a painful process to jet the carb properly. I removed it within a week. The engine acceleration was not tractable for daily use.
It was like
low rpm - no power
mid low rpm - no power
mid-mid high - massive power is shoved to the wheel
high rpm - screaming with immense acceleration
redline of 10,500 - power falls flat
You cannot ride such a bike on public roads. and specially if you dont know the condition of the road - and your clutch will not survive for even a month.
Adding reeds is not the only solution - the exhaust is what dictates power in a 2 stroke. A properly designed expansion chamber is worth all the effort in modding such bikes.
