Assalam O Alaikum everyone,
After an extended absence of many years, I'm finally back on the PakWheels forum again.
I recently bought Yamaha 125Z DX 2022 model, after a lapse of 9 years. I had a life threatening accident back in 2012 on a CG 125, which resulted in fractures in my right shoulder and right knee, I had decided then and there that I'll not ride or drive a motorcycle in my life again. However, based on the recent insane inflationary spikes, it was time to reinvest in a bike for daily commute for office & household chores in order to control the expenditures.
Suffice to say, I was incredibly weary while choosing a bike, and even though I was more inclined towards getting the YBR 125G, the bike posture was not comfortable for me and I wanted a ride which I can use for cruising at under 80 KM/H without stability issues and enough braking prowess that bike doesn't lose control under emergency braking maneuvers. Based on these, I decided to purchase the YB125Z DX around 10 days back.
The bike has adequately met my initial expectations when it comes to engine performance, stability, and smooth riding. For what it's worth, it has rekindled the joy and thrill of riding a motorcycle again in this old kindred spirit
However, I was disappointed by the lack of a kill switch, hazard lights and dipper. Another major gripe I had was the road grip of the rear tire, which even with Yamaha's recommended tire pressure settings of 25 psi at front and 29 at rear, it almost felt like that I would fell or slip anytime i took a turn at 60+ speeds or while taking a u turn at a traffic signal.
With these observations and my previous experiences, I set out to make this bike as safe as possible, while retaining the same original settings as closely as possible. Some of the modifications I made:
- Crash guard
- Hand guard
- Additional rear mudguard
- New barracuda throttle grips
- New fat handlebar installation -> this has significantly improved the riding experience and bike feels more stable and in control
- New single horn installed in place of the OEM horn
Things that I'm planning to upgrade in near future:
- New grips that include options for kill switch, dipper & hazard indicators
- Bigger front & rear tires (tubeless) for 80% urban commute and 20% rural commute
- Security system or lock system that ensures safety and security of the bike from getting stolen
I would like to call upon the Yamaha YBR family to please share your recommendations for the tires size and dimensions based on their real world experience. One thing I wish to make clear is that I do not wish to compromise the ride quality of the bike that the stock tires provide, I only wish to improve the road grip and braking capabilities of both tires so that there's no unnecessary load on either the engine or the suspension.
Tyre dimensions I'm looking at right now are either 90-90/18 for front & 100-90/18 for rear
Please do share your recommendations on the Panther Trekker that come preinstalled from Yamaha on the YBR G model, as many YBR G bikers have claimed they're better than the servis cruiser tires.
Thanks.
