I want to get the special Faisalabad number; FD-11 series; < 1000. The registration office staff said those numbers are only available in start of year with auction...I checked from Official Website of Motor Transport Management Information System and the number I need is not taken by anyone..Is there anyway I can get that special number now?

Staff at registration office is not very friendly to guide properly.

No there is no way. You have to sit in an auction and bid for the number. Secondly MTMIS is not updated regularly so you can not rely on it.

I checked few other numbers; they were showing..seems like FD-11-*** numbers are updated in their database! I wanna keep this new ride for 3-4 years; want to have a special number..seems like not possible now

One further question; I sold a ride few months back. I was the first owner. From MTMIS it seems the new owner hasnt yet transfered it to his name; may be he wants to keep the car on first owner's name; most people do this...What harm it can do to me? What if car is stolen? or misused (stolen and gets involved in some illegal activity) Should I get some written proof from new owner or car dealer through which I sold it? I know the car dealer for more than a decade now. I just want to keep my end clear due to increasing number of illegal activities these days!

If the car is used in any illegal activity/terrorist activity, police and agencies would be at your door. If you have the sale receipt along with photocopies of the transfer letter which has been signed by independent witnesses, you will be released but after a 1/2 days of detention. Needless to say, it will be accompanied by mental torture (or even physical if you belong to middle or lower middle class), tension for your family and financial loss (as you will have to bribe the police officials).

I am actually amazed by your second last line. Are you saying that you sold the car without any sale receipt? or a properly filled transfer letter? If yes, then you immediately need to get a sale receipt and transfer letter properly filled. If this is the case, then it can have pretty serious consequences for you as the car is still in your name and their is no record of the sale (except verbal one which does not matters)

U have to go to the registration office n give em a written declaration that u have sold the car and ur not responsible for it anymore. Give em photo copies of the transfer letter and sale reciept alongwith ur written request. Tell em to take it off ur name in the system n give u an official reciept of having done that. Then onwards ur free to go

Better be in contact with an excise agent who can easily arrange the number you wish they surely are in contact with those who buy numbers with resale purpose as i was told by someone in Punjab that numbers are now issued even through auction only to those who submit invoices of their proposed vehicles.If that really is practiced so then you might not be able to get one of your choice.

I have also witnessed the same issue with my ex car; the site does not display the new owner's name but it IS in the registration book. Hence, as Mani1 said, the site isn't updated regularly.

And also get it written on a stamp paper and attested. Keep one copy with you and give the new owner the other.
