bump...similar query. plus, would it be more feasible than buying a 1.3l variant altogether?

yes it can be replaced (with few amendments).
but 1kr-fe (1000cc) engine works best for vitz/passo/belta/boon and also gives good fuel economy.

Better sell 1.0l and buy 1.3 . Swapping means saying bye bye to resale.

    everyone has their own experiences.
my 3 friends (including my brother in law) having the 1000cc vitz and are pretty much amazed with excellent fuel economy, speed.
i, with my brother in law have travel to Faisalabad, Hafizabad & Sargodha on his 1000cc vitz and he always drive 115-125km/h speed on M2. Car is over 100,000 km and still strong.

According to the engine bay size, you can put 1.3l easily but it is little small compartment for 1.5l

Well iv'e experienced with a dozens of Vitz 1.0 2006-7 and 8 models and each and every machine vibrated like hell. Even 4.5 Graded used on high graded oils with timely maintenance and always driven on a mixture on Hi Octane. The car has no pick at all.. Same is the case with passo. A never got anything better than 10kml on any 1kr engine.

Well sorry for my negligence upon the matter, as visual inspection can be false sometimes because i saw a Vitz with 1.5L engine with manual transmission and also asked the mechanic present there that whether this engine can be fitted in 1.0L vitz or not and he said that it is not possible because the engine bay was small and needed some alterations

my 1kr-fe engine gives fuel economy of about 14km/L within city with off nd on a.c
no doubt its pick is sometimes troublesome but once u put it on highways, belive me its a queen of highways. fuels economy goes beyond 15km/L with excellent road grip nd smooth ride.

Pretty simple swap bolt to bolt you would need a clean 1nz or 2nzfe 1nzfe(1.5) is around 75k and 2nzfe (1.3) is around 90k
