Annoying brakes :confused:

no its the same problem im facing with my santro these days, it produces a tuk tuk sound from my front left brake caliper when pressed lightly and dose not produce any sound when pressed hardly. I got it fixed earlier when i got my disc pads replaced but not getting time to get it fixed again....

I had the pads replaced and discs cleaned (not tooled). Then i had the pins adjusted and everything else greased. The sound disappeared , its been 2000 kms. I did drive the car in rain n water and its still quite enough. I do hear an occasional khut phut but its much better.

PS pump making noises now

did you get the discs replaced earlier ? also my car has alot of km's on it so i'll get the discs replaced along with the calliper and pads

what i believe the discs on my car have lived there live as its driven about 200k kilometres

Yes i did. Installed used ones a few months ago but the noise did not disappear after that...

My cars front brakes are giving a "Tuk Tuk " sound when press the pedals lightly
but not when the brake pedal is completely pressed
What causes the sound ?
I have already got work done on brakes alot of times but all are in vain
Please help me in this regard

Dear it think when you last time made some work on brakes, the brake pipes are not bleeded properly before being assembled. i.e. there is some air trapped along with brake oil in brake pipes. this TUK TUK sound normally is heard due to this problem.
check them out..

I haven't gone through the whole thread for a while so i don't know if anyone found a remedy to the noise or not. I yesterday took the car to someone who is a very good family friend of the in-laws and has been their family mechanic for some decades now. A little background of the problem; the notorious tuk tuk sound from the front wheels along with heavy vibration and scratching noise when the brakes were applied. A number of mechanics could not diagnose the fault.

The mechanic I mentioned disassembled the brake assembly, removed the disk from the hub, told me to get a new hub for 800 Rs. or so. instead, I got a kabli one for 1000 Rs. as I could not find a new one. And voila! the sound vanished, the vibration vanished and the brakes are better now.

Car is a Mehran.

now tuk tuk sound. thank GOD i m free from it now first disassemble ur wheel jack up car from that side.start ur car n put on the gear now ask ur mechanic to check they movement of ur rotor i bet it wont be moving straight, i mean u will c tht ur caliper is moving left n right with the rotor, u have to replace ur wheel hub, cz that small hub which sits behind the rotor wont come saperatly, u need to change it completly, rest i give a tool job to rotors too from karadia guy, make sure that ur rotor is straight after that. once u get the hub, install it n test it with same way for her alignment but do it without rotor, once its clear, put everything back n u r free from tuk tuk sound

The hub is pressed into bearings in the knuckle. They are cartridge bearings - Was the hub actually wobbling the bearings? I find that quite hard to believe.

He raised the car up, took off the wheel and put the car in gear. Once the hub started rolling, he pointed out to the wobbling assembly. The hub including the disk was wobbling, the caliper-pad assembly was also 'shaking' with the wobbling hub. The bearing, he said still had some life left in it.

In comparison, the hub on the opposite side was inline and rotating fine.

bent hub? INCREDIBLE MAN - you bent a hub in a tin box car... The only way I think its doable is that the previous mechanic who was installing the wheel bearings must have damaged it. When pressing hubs it is VITAL that the item is placed and supported square to the jack.

Very possible that the previous mechanic did a crooked job, the symptoms got worse after the bearing job that I had commisioned some 6 months ago. This or the previous owner had hit the front wheel on a footpath or something.

yep - by your above post - it sounds like the hub was bent at the time of wheel bearing service, did he use a hammer?

Yes, a hammer, used it brutally, upon questioning, he was bent that it was the best possible way.

I stopped going to that mechanic after he did a bad clutch job on the car, messed up my radiator and wired the fan wrong. Did I mention he broke my car key too.
