There is a product for every little thing in detailing What you're asking for though covers a big area of maintaining ride in between washes. So a few options at hand are:
- A car duster with its fibres paraffin wax treated (California car duster) OR feather based with static charge (Chemical guys Merino wool auto duster). I personally use the California car duster and like it a lot. These dusters are used for lifting dust from car surface without scratching the surface. This should only be used when there is little dust thats loose and that you can even blow away with mouth (typically overnight dust). If you can't blow it away, then dusters aren't a candidate.
These are expensive (but do last a while if you dont do very heavy dirt pulling jobs with it and keep it covered in their respective bags). As with most detailing things in PK, its not easily available, so option 2,3 below come to rescue.
- Quick Detailer
-
Waterless wash
When the dust is more than just one/two day and you feel its a bit sticky, then you should use one of the options 2,3 to clean surface. Both of these 2,3 are in spray based form and have lubricants and cleaners that aid in dust removal without scratching car surface with the use of plush microfiber towels. A quick detailer is more expensive of the two options as it also has more gloss enhancers but a waterless wash spray has better cleaning ability (besides being cheaper). A waterless wash solution is more suited for a job of dust removal. Some waterless wash options come with wax options too (e.g. Meguiars wash n wax anywhere and few others) that cover up the looks part too. You just have to mist it lightly on the panel with a moving hand so that a mist is deposited on the surface. Fold your microfiber towel four ways and make a very light pass on the area you've just sprayed on (NO RUBBING/SCRUBBING, just a light pass to lift the initial dust and while you do that just lift your towel a bit half way through the area you intend to cover so that a fresh towel area is lifting the dirt too and just just the front face of it. The following pictures taken from another forum will illustrate what I said above:
Before picture (the dust/dirt is on surface and bit stuck on surface as you can see):
Spray the QD or WW on surface. The more dust/dirt, the more generously you should spray
A generous amount was used here for extra lubrication since dust was a bit stuck on surface.
Take a clean microfiber towel and folded 4 ways
Put it on surface and make a light pass in one straight direction
The front area of towel in which you moved it has most of the liquid and dirt picked up. You can see a dark pattern developed in the pic below:
Now lift the towel a bit such that the prior area used in the previous pass isn't interacting with car surface
Now you see another line deposited on towel below it becuase of the towel lifted
Lift it even more on another pass
Three lines of picked up dust .
Left side dirty, right clean
Once one of the side is fully covered with lines of picked up dirt/dust/lubricant, then switch to the next nearby side. Once you've cleaned using this pattern, switch to another towel (or the other side of same towel), light spray on the surface and now you can move the towel on the cleaned area back and forth to finish it off (to remove any left over streaking from prior stripe based cleaning).
Incase of more dirty panels, the picked up dirt pattern will look like this:
and if its dirty, then you shouldn't be covering a larger area with a single swipe.
In the end you towel may end up looking like this:
Even better way would be use more towels to do a single car, possibly more plusher towels with a thicker and taller nap.
I hope this helps clarify the options at hand and HOW to do it RIGHT...
