Do not travel during rain or during night time in hilly areas. Landslides usually occur during or after rains. And during rainy season(monsoon in NA Pakistan; end of June to early September) there is a higher probability of land slides. Night time should be avoided due to poor visibility and in some areas due to security issues as well.
First of all check weather forecasts before start of your journey. This will tell you about any severe weather situations; postpone your plan in such cases. In other cases rains in northern areas are normally in short time spans. So your best bet would be to find a safe spot, park your car and wait for the weather to clear.
