Dear Pakwheelers,
This SRO means the following things.
1) This is issued to control the import of USA made Escallade, Hummer H2T pickup, toyota TUNDRA all of which were importing in huge numbers in recent year or two at duty rate of 1.8 to 2 million only, thats why they were available in market from 5.1 to 6 million only for 2007 model.
2) Typical duty for a 2007 prado comes closer to 4 to 4.5 million nowadays, so there was an increasing trend in people who were evaluating 2007 model prado vs hummer h2, and most of them were obviously choosing hummer as that one is a monster having good visual value and also available for more than 2 million cheaper than same year prado.
3) As for the smaller car segment is concern the exclusion of NON ASIAN make cars from fixed duty structure is only to support Dewan Group for BMW 318~320i and for BMW520 as well as for SHAHNAWAZ group C class E class as it would become impossible for ordinary people like you and me to asses the import duty to import these used cars for our personal use, and we will become limited to buy these cars from these two sources only.
4) As you know that our goernment does not spare any moment to spoil our joy, passion for cars, they just dont realize if i want to import a 5.7 liter v8 car for myself then i just meant it for my own satisfaction not for imposing to others that i have LUXURIOUS vehicle, compare the price of 2010 premio 1.8 with the price of ford mustang gt 2010 5.7 then you would realize that premio is almost 30% costlier than ford GT but if you import them to pakistan then thanks to our ridiculous CC based system mustang will cost you a fortune as it will be considered as LUXURY car by our f----ing customs officials same is the case with ford 150 pickup and the list just goes on and on.
Now for my opinion the import duties for bigger cc cars should be reduced almost 50% and rest of the 50% should be divided in to 10 years and should be added to annual road tax , this will reduce the prices of imported cars on a greater margin and will give the government longer revenue collection tenure. Thus if that imported car is been sold to 4 persons in 10 years than the cost of 50% import duty will be distributed among 4 individuals rather than one, allowing us to enjoy our rides. But in Pakistan government only takes steps in revenue collection that each day is their last day.
